I never buy first year cars due to the problems that I hear and read about but due to the accident that I had I went and ordered the 5.0. Reading up on the shifting and tranny issues has got me a bit worried though. Is this a cause for concern? This will be my first manual car.

FWIW, my 5.0 shifts without issue, granted I have less than 200 miles on it but I did start out the other day in mid-twenties temp with zero problem getting into 2nd.
granted it dosen't shift like a Homda S2000 but then I don't know anything that does shift that smooth !

I'm just shy of 9K with no issues at all.My car was built 5/10 and I drive it hard and to be honest the 6spd Manual has been flawless so far under all conditions.

I have adapted to all the little quirks of this tranny like the notchy 1-2 shift when cold.If you kind of guide the shifter into the gates when cold it will shift smooth.

after warmed up a bit I can row through the gears like a champ and rev match on down shifts.I hate to see so many others having problems with either clutch or transmission in general.

Well, they had my car 3 days and had extensive discussions with Ford. Ford advised them to add a friction modifier to the transmission fluid. They called this afternoon and told me the car was fixed and that the improvement in shift quality was night and day. Of course, I was skeptical. Well, I just picked it up and I'm thrilled to say the least. The car will go into ANY gear easily at any speed. I can actually shift the car with my pinky. There is absolutely NO grinding AT ALL and shifts are crisp and quick now: click-click-click-click. It even feels different with the motor off. Moving the lever is effortless and as opposed to multiple clunks as you move the lever into gear, you simply feel and hear one CLICK.

Good to hear your car tranny problems have been fixed. Well, at least for now. If it returns, do keep us updated.

For the tranny fluid friction modifier, should I do the same on mine? Or is it only specific for your MT82?
If it needs to be added in all MT82 trannies, what is this friction modifier called? Or what brands would be best for the MT82?

Alright i was experiencing a Rough shift/grind in cold 40 degree or less weather from 1st to second and generally not happy with the shifting after it got warm. Just felt wrong and sometimes hard to put into gear after it had already warmed up. So Ive gone to the dealership once and they couldn't find anything wrong. i told them about the countless threads and friends of mine having the same issues and they seemed unaware and how some of yall have changed the fluids which ford Didn't recommend. Any how after reading this thread http://www.svtperformance.com/forums...2-victoms.html i decided id put in new fluid. maby this guy was on to something. as where a few on this forum. so they reluctantly took out the old fluid. befor they put in the new factory fluid i was told that the ford techs did not feel comfortable putting this and i quote S*** back in my car and recommended http://www.summitracing.com/parts/NAL-12345349/. he also said its cheaper then the factory fluid. He later stated that it looked like i had automatic fluid in my trans and that all the other techs agreed that the factory fluid is possibly too thin for this transmission and may be the problem. Needless to say...My trans is back to day one. the difference was night and day. Im not holding my breath but it seems fixed. tomorrow's cold weather will be the next milestone. My car has 8200 miles and the issues started at around 5000 miles. only time will tell.

I was waiting for someone to try the Syncromesh. I suggested it on one of the other forums and I wasn't sure if anyone listened.

I have had an issue with several manuals I have owned (every car I have owned has been a manual). My '91 and '93 Escort GT's both got syncromesh fluid in their 5-speeds (The 2nd Gen Escort GT's ('91-'96) had Mazda engines and transmissions). A strong breeze would have been able to shift them between gears after the fluid swap. I did it after someone suggested syncromesh and I was amazed at the awesomeness. Ford said it should run ATF, after that I said syncromesh.

One of the other ones was my 2007 Mazdaspeed3. Shifting issues. Fluid was one of the three solutions to my problem. Redline MTL was the answer that time. Worked fantastic.

My Mustang is sleeping until winter is over and I had hoped that someone would figure out the tranny by spring.
