Default back to exhaust for a moment

2011 gt

I went and looked at the borla axle backs, it seems they have a hanger on the muffler that is much longer than the factory hanger, has anyone installed a set and had to modify the hanger, I did not buy them because of it (plus they are the atak's)

are they a direct fit muffler?

thanks!

I guess no one has installed a set of Borla ATAKS yet?

Nope but did just install Flowmaster Hushpower axle back last night, very nice fit and sound if you are looking at other options.

no need to modify for the 'longer hanger' you speak of merely goes through the rubber 'hanger' thats connected to the car. If you noticed on the shorter factory version there is a 'ridge' at the end to keep it from easily coming through whereas the aftermarket very often uses a retention ring / washer that goes over the longer hanger you speak of.

I used Steeda/Borla axle back mufflers and they have the same long rear hanger that slips through the rubber hanger you referred to and to keep it from slipping off the rubber I used two stainless steel 3/8 shaft collars I bought from McMaster-Carr, part number 6435K33 they work great. It takes two.
My only question is with the stock pipe clamps you have to reuse on install, is what torque setting do you tighten to? I used 21 ft pounds but not sure that is correct.
OH! That is on my 2011 GT.

I just installed a set of S type Axebacks and everything fit fine. The hangers were longer than stock but the mufflers are shorter. Reusing clamps was no problem and torque was between 32-36 ft. lbs. Only other thing I had to do was adjust the R over axle pipe to make the tip stick out evenly but it was no problem. They fit perfect and sound really nice. Absolutely no drone.
