Fuel Gauge Problems
#11
Just wanted to post up about today. As you know, I had my fuel pump replaced last week. I ran thru 1 tank of gas and it went down and did the normal 50 miles to empty so I filled it up a little later. Now, today, I had around 80-85 miles to empty when my DTE meter AGAIN jumped to 4 miles to empty and my gage also went from 3/8 to red. Looks like I will be calling Ford AGAIN about this. I hope the new pump they are puting in cars is not the same pump with no revisions as the one that was originally in our cars!

Just spoke with the service manager at the local Ford dealer regarding this issue and he said that he was going to open a hotline report or something to that effect with Ford. More to follow...

I have an appointment at 8 tomorrow mornig to take my car back to the dealership. Ford has instructed them to run some diagnostics on my instrument cluster and electronics. I think I just lucked up and got another bad pump but maybe im wrong!

The local dealer put a second new fuel pump in last wednesday. I have run thru 1 tank of gas and everything worked as it should. Im waiting to finish off my second tank to see if the problem reoccurs. With the first replacemnt pump, eveything worked fine on the first tank but the second tank showed the problem. I've got about 150 miles to empty right now so it will be this weekend before I finish it off...hopefully!

Ugh, I had this happen to me the other day. Cruising down the highway at half a tank, and next thing i know, fuel light is on, needle at E and its telling me i have 4 miles to empty. I've only had the car a week and that was the only time fuel has been that low. Will it happen again if it gets to 1/2? Should I take a preemptive measure and try to get Ford to go ahead and replace the part, even though it has only happened once?

Might not be the pump
I went through this hell on mine. They changed the module per the tsb, that worked for 1 tank of gas, then came back. Then they changed it again, along with the module on the other side (there are 2) still fail, strike 2. After much diagnosis, and getting Ford involved, they changed the instrument cluster, problem solved.
BTW, it's not just a gauge issue, if you push it and keep driving for about 10 miles after the gauge drops to zero the car will die (with 6 gal still in the tank )
Apparently the computer gets confused and decides not to play anymore.
Nothing like standing on the side of the turnpike next to your brand new car.
