Redlined Tonight
Well I had luck on my side tonight and a little devine intervention.
I had a GMC truck decide to race me tonight - He definitly had several mods on the truck, I did beat him but I redlined in third gear (not intentional) - got the red flash on the tach and did notice that when that happens the engine will shut down briefly and then kick back in under 7 grand. It was brief so I do not think anything happened to the engine - no engine light is on and still sounds smooth. Also got pulled over by the police - he actually let me off with a warning.
So - do you think the engine is ok - is there any other check I should do to make sure everything is ok?

The rev limiter is there to prevent damage from over spinning. It just stops the fuel from being delivered, hence the sudden loss in power. As soon as the revs fall below the threshold fuel delivery resumes. You shouldn't have to worry about it. I've hit the limiter once or twice in my 2005.
Now, if you are banging off the limiter 24-7 it's another story...

The rev limit shuts off spark to prevent detonation as well. You should have no worries unless you get hooked and start drag racing on a regular basis. I shifted at 7400 this week...it was awesome catching 2nd at over 6000 rpm and smoking the dudes SS.

I'm surprised a PU would want to tangle with a Mustang GT. Even with mods, weight is and always will be the enemy of acceleration. That's why a Lotus Elise, powered only by a 190 HP Toyota engine can accelerate from 0-60 in 4.4 seconds.

Yes I was caught up in the moment, yes I was flying and his first words were i saw the truck egging you on I would do the same if I had a nice car like this, so I consider myself fortunate it was fun a big adrenalin rush. Car has Ben running great today
