If I'm not mistaken the 5.0 in the f150 isn't the same engine as the one in the mustang.

It shares the exact same architecture as the mustang 5.0.

Lucas oil should help reduce consumption....I will add it when i do my 1st oil change. It worked well on my 2010 stang! I will be using amsoil synthetic when i get to 4k miles, with 1800 miles my oil is 78%..

Probable differences are cams and computer tuning to achieve a broader torque curve for towing. It might also have different internals since it is not intended as a sports car engine. Also its missing the fancy 5.0 engine cover worth at least a loss of 15 hp.

Default consumption of oil

i have a JLT seperator on my 2011 5.0, and after approximately 3500 miles i had about a teaspoon.

I have burned no oil after 7k miles. But I too have had about 1/3 of a teaspoon in my separator.

I hear if you paint the coil covers something other than gray you get 10 extra HP. I'm pretty sure the intake manifold is different as well.

Wow, I hadn't even thought of putting a separator in, thanks for the heads up! Putting in my order for one today

Default Burning oil

I have a 2011 GT with approximately 11,500 miles. I switched to Motorcraft full synethetic at 3,000 miles since the dealer carries it and I don't like changing oil any more. Anyway, I check my oil level every 1,000 miles and have not noticed any significant burnoff.
