Oh well I guess Ford never lies...
Someone did do a stock Dyno test (somewhere on the forum recently in the 5.0 section or 2005-2012 section) and they dynoed something like 393 hp at the wheels with premium fuel and around 380 tq with premium. That would mean the flywheel output is actually higher than stated by Ford.

Also, this whole idea of changing fuel maps automatically based on gas octane sensed was used on the 2008 Bullitt. On stock gas it had the same output as a Stock GT, with Premium though it was outputing an extra 20hp and 7tq.

You're half right. The Bullitt did adjust for regular versus premium, but max HP and TQ did not change. What changed was HP and TQ along the rest of the power curve. Max HP was 315, just like the 2010 GT.

. According to Ford, the system can sense, within a few seconds, what type of fuel is being injected into the motor and adjusts the spark to provide maximum torque at any given speed – and as much as 10 pounds-feet more between 1,000 and 4,000 rpm. The Bullitt can run on either regular or premium fuel, although Ford recommends premium fuel for top performance.
Also, that stock 5.0 was definitely on a generous dyno.

Looks like I need to revive an old thread! Just got mine on 3-26-12. 2012 Mustang GT 6MT. Gas mileage has been decent, I average 25-26 on the highway and about 20 in the city. I did notice however that my display prompts me when I start out in first to shift to fourth to conserve gas. I'm thinking to myself, am I a bad driver or is it just trying to help?

I just got back from a trip to Nashville , and to my surprise I got 27.2MPG on the freeway with cruise control set to 75. ( 6 speed , 9K miles)

Typically at least 25 on the freeway ...around town .. depends on on how heavy my foot is

I got my 2012 GT Mustang a little over a month ago- my avg mpg was pretty low as I learned how to drive the thing correctly. I had a 2008 Automatic Focus for a few years, but had a 2000 Manual focus before that.

After a month my mpg numbers have gone up but I live in seattle and spend a lot of time in traffic hell- lets just say I get much better numbers on the weekend when I get to choose when I hit the highway/freeways

Love the car to death though. I almost never wanted to drive for no good reason- now I just wanna drive all the time.

LOL, I'm the same way. I drive in city the way it's made to be driven. I get 20mpg consistantly with fairly aggressive city/highway but I drive 75mph highway. I'm sure 65 would give me a couple MPG. That's the key is staying around the 55-60mph mark to get your best MPG.

WOW - I got 14.8 for 90 straight miles on the highway. 6 speed with 3.73s. 70 mph is around 2100. I did 70-80 the whole time with a few pulls in 3rd/4th. Half city and half highway I am holding around 14.6.

Ok - did a reset. Just drove 60 miles; 40 highway and 20 on the street. Shifted before 2k and maintained 60-65 for 25 miles 70 for 15 miles... ended with 22 MPG two 3rd gear pulls. NICE!!!!!! It's tough here in GA, all the out of towners were flying by and passing me left and right lol. What a difference low RPM shifts and 65 will do.

Question Im stumped

My GT is only giving me 12.2 MPG in city. I live in LA and i do not drive aggressive at all. I keep it under 2800 rpm at all times and usually cruise at about 42mph and at about 1300rpm. I fill Chevron 91. The car so far has 356 miles on her. Does the lack of "engine breakage" have anything to do with my terrible gas millage or might it be something else. My gearing i think is even 305 or 331 if im not mistaken. Bottom line is it isnt aggressive gearing i drive like a grandpa, and yet i get terrible gas millage. Don't get me wrong i love my car, and even if this was the gas millage i would have to face i would have no problem with that, but if there is anything i can do i would love to know. BTW ive had the car for about a week and a half now and im pretty novice when it comes to Mustangs. Sorry to get off topic but do they come with synthetic oil form the factory, and if not what would be your suggestions on if i should switch it over to synthetic or not. Sites awesome and people seem pretty cool.

My stock 5.0 did 389 on a dynojet. Was it generous? Maybe.. but im sticking with that number
