Default 12 to 14 mpg

I have 3.31 MT and all I can get with driving it well enough to feel the power... is 12 to 14 mpg... in the city, stop and go. On the freeway, we're talking 21 to 25... depending on how fast I'm going.

My conclusion, either some people are flat out fibbing or relying on unreliable ways of figuring mpg or there's something really wrong with my ride.

To feel the power, you have to be turning at least 3500 RPM. That is where you enter the meat of the torque curve of the Coyote. But when you are feeling that power, your fuel consumption is horrible. So stop and go traffic with 3/4 to full gas pedal on those launches from the stop signs, yes, 10MPG is probably about right.

However, it is entirely possible to hit 30MPG on the freeway. With your stock rear gear and stock tune, 30MPG is achievable, but you cannot ever be in the meat of your torque curve. You have to be turning no faster than 2000RPM at 70MPH. At that point, your foot is barely touching the gas pedal.

To achieve 23+ MPG AVG in a given week of mixed driving, you have to really discipline yourself and rarely enter RPM ranges above 2500 RPM.

The Coyote is designed as a daily driver first, where that driving is supposed to be within idle (0750RPM) and 2500 RPM with your average RPMs around 1500-1750RPM.
If your weekly AVG RPM exceeds 2000RPM, you will not see your MPG potential.

Damn, I'm jealous of you guys getting 20+. I average 17 with mixed driving. 3.73 rear-end.

Im getting about 22mpg in my 14 GT/CS. I havent checked straight highway yet but Im more than satisfied with 22mpg. We find that we arent spending much more than we were with our V6. On our last trip, 12 hour drive, we actually went under our projected gas budget with an average highway speed of 75-80mph.

Getting about 20mpg mostly rural & highway driving with a newly added CAI & 91 tune & stock gears. Pretty happy with that.

The factor that affects gas mileage the most within the limits of the chosen platform is the gray matter between the ears.

Im really debating whether to pick up a 6-speed 5.0 or a 3.7. I do about 80% city driving and need at least high teens for mpg. I dont drive crazy at all and my city isn't CONSTANT stop and go. Traffic jams here are rare and the average speed limit is about 40 mph. Is 19mpg do-able wit the MT with out having to absolutely baby it? For reference I usually dont go over 2.5K rpm in my 2002 Sable.
I know, "you shouldn't worry about mpg blah, blah, bah get a V6 "
Im seeing a lot of good deals on 5.0 right now. I would consider an auto but i really want a manual.

I don't think high teens is out of range at all for a 5.0 in your situation, I have rarely gotten less than 20, but I am usually driving for more than 55mph for a good 15 minutes for my commute. The times I got lower than 20 was during stop and go traffic and I was showing off a bit... but your experience may vary, hope that helps.

I drove almost 100% city for over 2 years and driving normally (as God intended the Coyote to be driven), I got about 12.5 to 14.5 mpg in the city, again this is pure and constant stop and go... with lots of stops and lots of go... couldn't go more than a mile without having to stop again... then go... now that I'm doing 80 % freeway, we're talking 19 to 20 mpg... however, if you baby it, keep it below 65 mph and in 6th, you can dig out 26 to 28... but that's no fun..
