Default muscle car or sports car

I got into a argument with a bowtie lover...
Is the mustang gt a sports car or muscle car?
He said he would stick to the Vette..I love my 30k car was compared to a 60 to 80k car..
I said sports car.. Has great all around performance..
He said muscle car and the one he drove, drove as such..

What do yall think?

Challenger (all versions), Camaro (all versions), Mustang (all versions) = Muscle Car
Vette, Porsche = Sports Car
Vette Zr1, Porsche GT3, Lambo's, Ferraris (most), AMG = Super Cars

Sports cars are typically close to 50/50 weight front/rear and have much better manners than a muscle car around tight corners. Muscle cars tend to be sloppy in the rear and are great for straight line speed, less so in the twisties.

Muscle car because of the heritage and that's what they called them back then...
But today, it's more like a sports car since it's more than muscle IMO.
It handles and brakes better and more comfi than the 60s concept, where it was all HP basically except for a few limited cars.

You forgot GT cars, Grand Turismo cars. Sporting cars with handling and hp of a sports car but with +2 seating and luggage space.

It's a blank canvis and if you have the paint ($$) you choose the finished masterpiece. That's one of the cool things about mustangs in general, it can go both ways...it up to the guy with the brush man

I vote Muscle!

Mustang v6, camaro v6, challenger v6 I consider as pony cars
Mustang GT, camaro SS, challenger srt8 I consider as muscle ponies, or simply as muscle cars.
The Boss 302 with it's improved suspension for track handling, I consider more as a sports car. Maybe not an all out handler like some $80k cars, but definitely within the realm of sports car and track competition.
The Shelby gt500 (or future Cobra if Ford brings back that name in 2014) are true muscle cars.

I'd say it's a sports coupe that combines elements from both categories.

Pony cars were the lightest weight, smallest package of muscle cars. They got that name because they were smaller than the Chargers, Chevelles, Impallas, Galaxies, etc.

Since we haven't seen a real muscle car in years (unless the new Charger R/T and Mercury Marauder count), modern Mustangs kinda fill that market, but they really are still a Pony car in that they lean toward the handling of a sports car. To me, the recent comparisons of the mustang to the Genesis Coupe is ridiculous. That car is a straight up sports car. Light, nimble, not overly powerful. A Vette is a sprts car in the same way that a Ferrari is, something beyond, super sports maybe.

I'll stick with Pony on the Mustang. It DID invent the class, after all.
