The 5.0 is good for 10,000 miles between oil changes from what I here. Many folks recommend changing the oil for the first time earlier; between as early as 2k miles to around 5k miles. Some of the early 1st change is due to the old manufacturing techniques that used to leave some "trash" in the passage ways but that no longer is applicable with todays manufacturing methods. But many people feel comfortable with early changes so have at it.

Todays oils; dino to full synthetic to everything in-between; are much better than oil of decades ago. I'm not sure about the 11's and 12's but the 05-10's came with synthetic blend with Ford recommending 7500 mile intervals. Going to full synthetic and that becomes 10,000 miles or more, easily. But many folks prefer to change their oil early. It's their money.

yeah i always changed mine early on my 2007, i haven't heard of anyone having issues following the recommended intervals though. The manual says to change it when indicated on the display or 10,000 miles or yearly... pretty sweet, i usually dont even drive it more than 6,000 miles a year so far i haven't changed mine, i've had it 2 months and have 2,800 miles on it (i mainly drive it in the summer, not much in the winter) I haven't decided when to yet.

I believe the salesman also told me to do the first oil change early, at 5,000 miles or 3 months.

I did it at 5,000 and so far 7,500 every change after ... I got 21k on my 2011 so far :P

The only reason I change it before 10,000 is because I work at a Toyota dealership and just because the oil is awesome ... the filters still need to be changed ...

I change mine and have with both Mustangs we have owned at every 3k mi.
I don't care if others say it's a waste of money or not. Regardless of what these new oils and new engines do or do not do nowadays.

To me its added peace of mind and I happen to think it makes for a good habit of keeping your car well maintained.

I changed mine at 500 miles, then at 2000, then I was doing it at every 3K but with Semi-syn stock in these I've been pushing it to 4K. There's still crap that builds up in oils that a filter won't get.

The simple solution is to send your oil in for analysis. If it says your oil is still good, run it longer.

No, I don't work for them. I work for the Navy. I do, however, believe in the effectiveness of a good oil analysis program.

The main contaminant is gasoline blow-by. This is the primary factor in your oil turning black. When it changes color, it's done.

I'll be adhereing to 5000 mile intervals until maybe 50K miles. Then I might tighten up to 3000 miles.

I started out changing at 5000 miles on the first fill, stuff was black as night. I have a fill of amsoil in that i plan on running for probably 6000 miles total (because i'll hit the 1 year mark before 10000 miles) otherwise I'd run a full synthetic for 10,000 miles and not blink.

Anybody worried about the filter, buy something like the amsoil or royal purple premium filters that will last 10,000 miles, problem solved.
