I change the oil on my truck. I like to do it and its easy to get my beer belly underneath it.
However, when it comes to my Mustang, the dealer does the oil changes. They have a $10 oil change club that I pay $30 @ year in dues to join and I can get my oil changed as frequently as wanted for $15 (because of the extra quart).
I change my oil after every road course track day, usually every two months and this works out well for me. This includes Motorcraft synth blend and filter.

I've never found a dealership cheaper to change the oil than doing it myself. It costs about $30 to do it myself with motorcraft. Dealership charges $60. I'm not sure how you guys are getting these deals. If i use mobile 1 (which I do) I think it costs me about $45 to do it myself, dealerships and other places charge $80-120.

As far as 5W20 you can use 10W30 or whatever you want if you like. It's been discussed to death. It doesn't matter which you use, The difference is negligible especially since most people dont know the exact temp. of their oil and the difference is only about 8 degrees for which has better verscoscity at which temp. even then modern oils (especially synthetic) are really good, you wont hurt your engine or make it last longer using one type or one brand over another.

i'd have to look up the exact numbers again soemtime but it was something like 5W20 is better up to 192 degrees and at 200-210 10w30 was better or something like that... but if your oil isn't hotter than like 195 it really doesnt matter, and i've never found anyone on the forum with a precise enough oil temp gauge to know. and 5W20 is still good beyond those temps.

Mr sandman, Thanks fore your input. I worked at Ford motor co. Engineering for 33 years, that doe not make me a expert, but I checked with a couple of people that worked on the 2012 Mustang program and they stated the oil was 5w/20w (mineral).. The also said the Boss 302 was synthetic blend???? More than likely makes little difference. the boss 302 was also heavier viscosity. More than likely it is more of a race car and will run hotter oil temps.

i wont let the dealer touch my car. The last time i was at the dealer was when I bought the car and they put a nice scratch in it while in detail and i was signing papers. I do amsoil with motorcraft filter cost me 50 bucks

OP -- check your owner's manual. Here's a link to the Engine Specification page from the online manual for the 2011 model year cars (3.7, 5.0 and 5.4 L engines):

In ALL cases, the oil in the crankcase from the factory is Motorcraft Synthetic Blend or Full Synthetic (varies by engine), and for the 5.0L V8, it's 5W-20 Synthetic Blend.

50? It cost me nearly 75 after everything. I used mobil 1 extended performance and a fram filter. Next time I'll get a different filter, thing was half the size of the factory filter.

On a side note I'm still burning oil, changed it at 5k and it was at the top of the hatch, now at 10k and its at the bottom of the hatch.

I just picked up some Quaker State 5w20 Full Synthetic for $20 at Walmart. Filter (Fram) is $4-10, I got the extended performance one. That is under $30, do it yourself is king if you have time.

I wouldn't use a fram filter if you gave it to me! cardboard REALLY! why not use the motorcraft filter? The price is similar and what is recommended by ford. Do your research man!

Its called changing your oil on the weekend and the Ford dealer isn't open unfortunetaly. Poor planning on my part.
