I went through the "gear" phase a couple years back when I started mods to my stock setup.Car came with 3:55 and I wanted more acceleration so I was toying with 3:73 or 4:10 and went 4:10. I wish today I had gone with 3:73 for great pick-up with better Hi-way (rpm) gas mileage. Mine is not a daily driver so I live with the higher rpm at hi-way speed.The higher gear is a lot of fun though. Now you can always take the car with 3:55 and do a gear mod to 3:73 for a few hundred bucks down the road ,best of both worlds!

I also had 4.10s in my '07 GT automatic and my friend has them in his 06 GT manual with a KB supercharger. We both still liked the 4.10s. So I guess it just depends on the person and what sacrifices they are willing to make for the gear.

3.73 + MT82 is about the same ratio as 4.10 + T5. If you put 4.10s in a MT82 you'll be shifting into fifth in the quarter mile (if that matters to you) and it would be a very aggressive gearing overall.

I'm thinking of putting in 3.55 into my car this winter. Please let me know what you get for mileage out of yours as I too have a mustang gt 2012 with the 3.31. I'm going to be taking a road trip next summer and I want to know if I should wait until after the trip to change out gears. I know I'll get better mileage with the 3.31 but how much better is the quesiton

I have about 10,000 miles on my mustang now (and I just put it away for the winter...sad face). On average I would get about 16.8mpg. I drove mostly city but would go on 4 hour trips on the highway about once per month or so. I like acceleration too so you gotta factor that into it too. If you are going for a long car ride I would suggest waiting until after to change out the gears.

When you went on the highway what did you get. I like acceleration too I have another option for a car that will get much better mileage. My typical heavy footed highway driving with the 3.31 would get me 24-25 at around 80-90 mph. So I'm curious what difference it makes on the highway specifically. City I don't pay attention to mileage because let's be honest. Define "city". City to me means having fun with some friends.

I drive 180 miles round trip to work almost every day. my 13 has 3.73s and I get about 23 mpg and at 80 mph my RPM meter is about 2350-2450

My 2011 had 3.15s in the Automatic, i was getting 19mpg (mostly due to age -car had almost 60k on it) but my RPM band was about 2000-2050.

I took a ride in a 13 today with 3.55s the RPM band was 2150-2250 at 80mph averaging about 24 mpg.

4.10's in the automatic must have a crazy short first gear. The first gear is all ready so low, lower than the manuals. I bet hooking up out the hole is impossible.

I had 3.55's in my '07 GT and really like them, great compromise between performance and economy. I have 3.73's in my '13 GT, it took some getting used to the 3.73's (you go through 1st very quickly) for a moment I contemplated moving to 3.55's to get back some drivability but after driving a few months I got used to the 3.73's and would not trade them.

If I can keep my foot out of the laud pedal (haha) I get almost 24 mpg on the highway which is fine for me.
