You guys are buidling some nice setups here and your goals are 100% attainable. I'm not sure what the 5.0 N/A Cobrajet motor would cost but ford a naturally aspirated CJ with 620HP @8000 rpm, they say the CJ intake is a 30HP bolt-on for Boss cars (requires tuning). 620 minus 15% would put the car at 527whp. Right in line with what your trying to build.

I think they are workin on a 700HP car too but wonder if that would be at some crazy high rpm, high compression race only setup.

Some good info:

Also, i think they did come through with some big power for you.. would you still go w/ MMR next time or was the Livernois porting work very good in the end result?
To be honest, I am not sure about MMR. It was $1300 for both heads by the way. I cannot complain about the results. My car is just nails right now. 522 rwhp at 7700 rpm is about as good as it gets N/A although I know you guys will blow past it and I am sure there are some out there that have already. In short, these heads flow like a MF'r and since you live in the Detroit area, I do not see how you could go wrong with Livernois. Car is running great by the way. I highly recommend a forged naturally aspirated build. They just put a new 2013 shelby on that same dyno and got 560 rwhp on 91 octane and 541 Lbs of torque. Based on those comps I would say I am easily pulling over 610 FWHP and running about 250 lbs lighter than Shelby, all off the front end.

I love that Blog about your ride..

I see you opted for the boss 302 valve springs.. how much extra were those if you dont mind me asking? next step would have been the boss valves and then you are right at a new set of Boss heads (but those are $1300 each). Thats where i am right now, trying to decide. Valves from Ford racing are $135 for Boss Exhaust (M-6505-M50BR*) and $120 for the intake (M-6507-M50BR*). The valve spring kit is only $60 (M-6513-M50BR*).

The much bigger expenditure and HP apart from bottom (8 bolt crank, boss oil pump, rods, pistons, E85 injectors etc..) comes in using the Cobrajet cams - M-6550-M50BEXH* and M-6550-M50BINT* are $895 each ($1790 for the vehicle) and you have to machine a little extra clearance in in the head - tbd on that amount. Plus the new pulse wheel M-12A227-CJ13 ($110) , oil pump M-6600-50CJ ($759!), and the cj intake M-9424-M50CJ* (995) + something like this super CJ throttle body (M-9926-SCJ) $650.. oh and then find an air box..

There is also the titanium valve option but they dont last quite as long and are huge $$ pure custom at the moment.

Boss Springs are cheap but they are good for 8000+ rpm and thus good bang for the buck. Did not go with the Boss valves. I do not know if those are really necessary. But it all depends on your application. I went with the Ford Racing Throttle body but we abandoned it because we couldn't tune it. I heard Jon Lund can tune it but that does not do me much good. Getting past the 7700 rpm barrier is the tough part. I understand that the Boss crank sensor can help that. I know you are on top of that issue. I did not get an oil pump but it is a good idea especially for you because I think you will be pushing 600 rwhp naturally aspirated at high rpm. I imagine you will drag that car and be pushing it over the 8000 rpm mark. My dyno run was done on 91 octane. There was another 15-20 horses in it on 93-94. You will be way above that based on what I see you are doing. I think you will be taking this engine to the next level. Levels never before seen on DRIVEABLE naturally aspirated stock engines. But as you can see it costs. However, your engine will have much better longevity as you will not be wearing it out with boosted ring blowing cylinder pressure. But you know this. Good luck.
