Default Do the same rules apply for semi synthetic oil?

Can I change according to the oil indicator? Or is that if I use fully synthetic only? What comes from the factory; full or semi?

Checked my oil today and it's not even registering on the dip stick @ 4,044 miles.

Advanced had a pretty good deal going. 10 qts of semi and two filters with coupon was $43 after taxes.

I think I'd stick with the fully synthetic. I know a Mobil 1 rep and he says with full synthetic to change the oil every 12000 miles. He says to change the filter every 6000 miles though. The semi synthetic will break down some I'm sure but I'm definitely no expert. Just passing on what i've been told by a pretty reliable source.

Thanks for the input.... I did put the semi in for now. Just wanted to change the oil; 4k miles on car.

I am with you on going fully synthetic next go around and change according to the indicator. Maybe around the 8K mark I will change again to that.

I understand that. I'm going to do my first oil change probably around 3500 or 4000. Then I'll probably go by the indicator after that also. Just hate the idea of leaving the original oil in it to long.

I just wonder where all the oil went, lol. Looked clean coming out.

Your new Ford comes with synthetic blend oil, according to the Internet lore (the Internet knows everything, remember). The factory oil is fine for the full interval of the oil change indicator - I ran mine the full time and did an oil analysis. The oil and the engine were foth in good shape.

Any SAE 5w-20 oil, including conventional oil, that meets Ford's WSS M2C-945A specification will work fine for the full interval on the the oil indicator. You don't need synthetic or even semi-synthetic to run that long.

If your oil is not "registering on the dipstick" then put more in - your engine is low on oil and that's not good.

Thanks for the responses.

Yes, I agree it's not good. At 3,900 miles it was fine. Went to ford for a repair and got it back the oil indicator was on 9% from 67% when dropped off.

Just a fluke. I check oil once a week on every car I own.

I did notice my car using almost a quart every 1000 miles for the first 3K miles. It looks like it's holding it now, I guess it's just during break-in that there is some extra oil consumption. I went a head and did my first oil change at 3K, the next one will be when the indicator tells me so, and I will go with M1.
It's always a good idea to check the oil level and check it often.
