Default $3,000 budget street/strip build on a new 2012..

Hello everyone. I have been searching the last couple weeks for parts for a budget street strip setup. I've been drag racing for over 21 years. I raced diesels from 1999 until two years ago. I sold them all, and bought a house on the water for the wife and kids to enjoy. I tried to forget about my addiction, but have failed.. haha.. My wife and I decided to get something that doesn't brake the bank, yet is still capable of being respectable with a very limited budget build. After doing research, we decided to go with a new 2012 GT.
So, I would like to see what people would reccommend for a $3,000 budget street/strip build on a 2 day old 2012 automatic GT. We will drive slow traffic with it most all the time on the street, so an overly large converter is out. I would prefer to keep it naturally aspirated, although over the years I've grown to really enjoy turbos and nitrous. My initial thoughts are a tune, ram air, gears, aluminum driveshaft, and a converter. I'm a little unsure about the rest. I'm completely open to suggestions. I would really like to buy everything from one company. I also know I'd like to buy a set of skinnies and 15'' drag radials for the rear.. Anyway, all suggestions are appreciated. You're also welcome to pm me.

You sound like your off to a good start, hopefully you wont get the mod itch though, because I have around 2k in just the CAI/Tune/Axle-back/X-pipe/3.73's just to give you an idea, add some drag wheels/radials and that will put you around your 3k limit.

I don't want to get carried away again. While I was playing with diesels, I would pull them to the races that were far away with my custom Kodiak with 504 rwhp. I would take my 2006 standard cab shortbed 2500 to the track with 844 rwhp on diesel only then spray it. It was a 2wd that weighed 6,380 pounds and still ran over 131 mph in the quarter and was driven on multiple trips back and forth from FL to KY. I also had a nasty half ton standard cab shortbed that was much more powerful and had 6 nitrous foggers on top of that. It was also street legal and I drove it an hour to the track. I then had a few other slower trucks that were still in the 11.4 to 12.0 range. I can become addicted to going fast quickly. On this, I set a limit. A conservative combo that's still fun to drive. I just want it to run 11's while still being dependable. My addiction to diesels has already had me looking at duramax motors for a transplant though.. I'm trying to resist.

Okay, my mod list is around $2,000 (in sig.) some good 15" slicks/skinnys like bogarts or race stars can take up about $1,000. you'd probably run mid-high 11s with the mods in my sig.

Don't buy headers, you wont see enough of a gain to make ti worthwhile on a budget. 4.10 Gears will get you best ET for lowest cost. Buy the boss intake manifold from tousley ford, it's by far the cheapest place at $350.
parts list from memory:
JLT CAI+ Tuner= $550, 4.10 Gears $200 (If you pay for an install add 250-350), Off-road x-pipe $250, Boss intake manifold 350 (good for about .2 off in the 1/4) tires are about $500.

now, if you want 15s you are talking atleast $1000, torque converter is $1000 (not including install if you cant do it yourself) n2o is about $1500 for a decent setup, super/turbos are going to be in the $5000-$9000 range.

cams/heads can be a good n/a build, JPC has gone 9.9@137 with custom heads/cam, N/A 4.88 gears.

For a budget stand-point and just wanting to hit mid-high 11s just do the mods in my sig, a drive-shaft wouldnt be bad, but is about $650, and a torque converter would be sweet, someone has ran 11.3@118mph with the addition of those mods plus race star's slicks/skinnies and LT headers. most of the people with the mods in my sig are trapping in the 117-119mph range.

If it hits the track I do agree the boss intake is important. The power curve on that kicks in after 6000 rpms and really keeps the car pulling. If it wasn't going to the track I wouldn't suggest it. Most people aren't riding around keeping the car in the 6-7000 rpm band. Headers do net gains of around 20 hp however unless you have a boom on the 2012 you aren't doing it yourself the motor mounts have to be removed, engine lowered, and steering column has to come out. Impossible on jack stands! Gets expensive with the install. I'm with Mishri we have a similar set up and that should put you mid to high 11s or so. And its all naturally asperated.
