From my own experience, a powerful car does not always mean undrivable in rush hour. Modern cars have all the DD friendly stuff like cam phasing, electronic ECM, and so forth.

Now, an 800 HP carburated pushrod engine with massive cams that cannot be phased with no electronic throttle positioning assist, that you do not want to DD in rush hour.

800whp isn't very streetable, just ask Stkjock, he just posted a thread in the street/strip section about how he cant get any traction at all so all of his power is nearly useless, he has an 850whp GT500

A built engine means forged (stronger) parts. pistons, rotating assembly, rods.

The stock engine can hold about 650whp and run high 9s. plenty fast enough for me for both street and drag strip use.. thats about as much as I'd want. Anymore starts getting crazy and to use the power you need to race on the street from 60mphs - 160+mph.. which is just nuts to me. I also prefer to race at the dragstrip. people can and do race with 1000whp, but never from a dig or even a low roll. anything over 120mph or 130mph on public roads starts getting dangerous.

Good point. My thinking was with such a high hp car, 3.73 gear would be pointless on the low end, but I wasn't thinking about putting all the power to the weels. It would make sense than to go with a 3.73. As for the graduation bit, it's from PA school. Sorry, I should have made that more clear. High school for me ended in 1995.

You just nailed exactly what I want to do. 99% of the racing I do is from rolling starts. Rush hour isn't a problem. There isn't any where I'll be living. As an added bonus, I have relatives who are corvette fanatics. They own zr1's. It would nice to stomp them. LS9 makes more power and the vette is 200-300 pds lighter then the mustang.....last I checked.

ah good, street racing an 800hp car on the backroads of west virginia. I wouldn't bother putting "Organ Doner" on your license, as they probably won't be useful when you're done with them.

yea, no way I'd do the project out here. Roads are to windy and lots of rain and salt which will rusts everything.

well as one of our favorite street/strip members says... roll racing isn't racing, it's two idiots speeding together and he drove a front wheel drive car at the time he said that (SRT-4) normally they all will only roll race, not him.

another one of these guys!!!! Dude get the car first than worry about a motor.. or get the car do a blower or turbo on the stock motor, learn how to drive it, because who knows you may not even be able to handle that.

Wow, why so negative towards me? Yes, I can drive stick. Yes, I've driven high hp cars and trucks. I've just never built one. Don't stereotype me based on your past experiences. The original question to this thread has been answered. Don't turn this into a bash thread. I'm here to learn and help where I can, just like you.
