I'm a very lonely person who feels I must blather constantly on threads. I have nothing to offer here because I feel I wasn't held much when I was a child.

Just picked up my first mustang, not my first performance car, but my first mustang none the less, and 6MT was the only way to go for me. I enjoy downshifting and overall feel a more engaging experience. I think that no matter what you select, you'll enjoy it and that's really all that matters.

As someone who was a manual driver for 25 years, with an automatic peppered here and there I say manual... I would still be in a manual if the accident I was in recently didn't fracture my C7 and under doctors orders can't drive stick anymore...

For the record I kept my 2000 vert stick, and after it came out of the shop (This was the car that was hit) I hopped in it to take small cruise around town and yep, now I understand why doctor said no more stick shift, after 15 minutes of stop and go traffic I was in massive amounts of pain.

my newest Mustang is an auto with the select shift and I am not a fan. The delay for it to shift is too long and I have red lined twice. I am going to grab a tuner and see if this can be adjusted.

Default automatic for the win.

This is no c4.
Do you drive 50 laps on an oval track where the 3% power difference could be noticed ?
6 gears same as the standard.
No human can shift as fast as a computer.
Thats for all modern automatics.

Now on the 2011 up 5.0 automatic.
1st Gear 4.17 Ratio. Awesome.
This car likes to trap in 3rd in the quarter mile. This is huge. Compared to the standard which traps in 4th. You have torque multiplication the whole quartermile. The opposing standard, hits a 1-1 ratio. The Standard humanly shifts 3 times. Your automatic computer shifts twice. The standard can launch at a higher rpm and that's about it.

The throttle response stock does suck. A tune completely changes this.

4th gear is not a 1-1 ratio on the manual, thats 5th gear

4th gear can run up to about 130 mph.

auto can be better for 1/4 mile, but manual is always more fun when you nail it. my grandma can drive an auto as good as anyone - atleast in a straight line

Default gear ratios

1st 4.17 2nd 2.34 3rd 1.52 =automatic 3.15 final drive

1st 3.66 2nd 2.43 3rd 1.69 4th 1.32=standard. 3.31 3.55 or 3.73 final drive

My mistake I thought the standard had two overdrive gears as well.

Either way the math supports the automatic in the 1/4 mile.

In city driving I hit 5th in my auto which is an overdrive gear. So you will most likely get better mileage with an auto city driving.

Don't get me wrong a 3rd to 2nd drop in a standard is a fun ride, but the standard becomes equally not so fun when driving in a traffic jam. Most people can drive your car for you if you need them to as well. Some people refuse to drive a standard.

And to those who think that you are more engaged and more in control of your vehicle when your driving a standard your not. There are moments when you do not have both hands on the wheel, which is less control.

I agree with your last paragraph to an extent... but I feel more in control, especially when if in a hard braking situation, like when some moron, pulls out in front of me I could hard shift to a low gear to help in the braking to prevent an accident. However, I like Manual simply because I choose the gear I want, with the select shift, it doesn't allow you to down shift to 2nd, from 4th or 5th if you want a nice power grab... it seems the computer is programmed to not allow a downshift to 2nd if it senses the RPM will exceed 4500 RPM.

That is my biggest issue with Select Shift automatic, the other is the delay it has to shift gears which is about 2 seconds. (Via me counting in my head)

Default Automatic select shift.

I took one look at my select shift, had a little laugh tried it out, had a bigger laugh.

My Stock auto 2013 GT premium with 91 octane, ran a 0-60 of 5.5 seconds in 30c heat, humid.

Same Day with Ford Racing 93 Tune ran a 0-60 5.1 seconds.

Same Day with a 91 VMP tune ran a 0-60 4.6 seconds.

All those times were done same location using my track pack applications. NOT using select shift. Just put in drive, left tc on, and mashed the gas peddle at idle.

My best time is a 0-60 of 4.2 seconds on a colder night 18c ,with my accufab 84.5mm throttlebody, kn typhoon intake, VMP 91 Performance tune. I had some wheel hop and spin in 1st, and a hard chirp into 2nd.
