Default AFE CAI and Bama Tuner

Hey guys! I just got my new Mustang yesterday, and I had some questions.

I want to get an AFE CAI, but I haven't heard many reviews or from many people with them.. how are they in Central Canada for reliablity? I wanna make a fairly powerful car. Shouldn't ever be driven in winter, possibly rain but hopefully not much. My biggest concern is the gravel road to get to my house.. will this fill up with gravel/dust/bugs? Anything I need to watch for?

http://www.americanmuscle.com/afe-cai-1112gt.html is the one.

Also, I'm thinking I'll get the Bama SF3/X3 tuner. I love the free lifetime custom tunes, and I hope this will wake my Auto Mustang up a little bit. I was wondering how this works? Do I just email Bama with my current setup and they email back the tune, and I just plug my tuner into the comp or what?

Thanks for your help!

For an auto nobody beats a tune from VMP. He has the autos dialed in. I needed a revision from them and guess what? It was free. So it's not just Bama that does it. I've never heard of an AFE CAI but your car comes stock with a CAI so you'll see no gains from changing it.

no gains with just an intake, but with tune you will get more gains than just a tune alone...correct me if i am wrong.. best to do both together, or just tune if you have to pick one..

I'll have to do some research on VMP, sounds interesting. Really? No gains from the stock CAI? That's slightly disappointing.. It's not very visually appealing, and it SEEMS fairly restrictive compared to the other CAI's. I might consider just getting one for the visual factor if nothing else..

I plan on getting both SirJAG. As scottmach stated, I have one from the factory in my car, I was just hoping an aftermarket one would show some improvement

Start off with a tune first. The intake will only make a noticable difference if you have other downstream exhaust mods. What goes in must come out. If not you still have a bottle neck.

Ahh I see what your saying. I was hoping that wouldn't be the case, as a CAI and Tuner are $800, but a full exhaust is close to $2500. Well, worst case scenario I can buy one that look visually appealing and buy it.

Any info on the weather part of it though? Like will it react badly if it gets caught in some puddles? Or on gravel roads, as I drive gravel roads with it? Will it fill with gravel/dust/bugs?

If our cars don't benefit from CAI alone, why not just get a tune and high flow filter? Would save about $309.

I'm planning on upgrading all of it anyways, just figured I'd save some money by buying the CAI and Tuner as a combo, as I'll need both anyways! Also, I'm thinking of changing from AFE, no one seems to know of it and I dunno if I want ALL that chrome.

Also, will the weather (rain/puddles) and bugs affect a CAI in central Canada? Anyone know if these elements do anything to a CAI? Especially the less sheltered aftermarket ones?

Most of the CAI use the factory air feed. Its not like the typical CAI that locates the filter in the fender. You should be fine from all the road hazards.

If you want a CAI that does not require a tune, AEM, Roush, Airaid, and C&L w/venturi tube are all capable of supporting the stock tune. Personally I prefer the closed box design.

Has anyone else looked at the AFE description from AM and thought bull? 22/27 gains without a tune sounds kinda like it.

I'll be getting a tune, I believe I'm going to buy a Trinity from American Muscle, with Lifetime Tunes from Bama. That should do the trick I believe.

Yah, the AFE ratings seemed really high wanted to check into that.
