Default Made the plunge!

After three years of telling myself I didn't "need" a new GT I finally lost the battle and bought a 2013. They took care of my 2010 and with invoice and $2,250 in rebates I couldn't resist. Most importantly the boss ok'd the deal. The increase in power is phenomenal. I'm waiting to get some more miles on it before I open it up but so far it is amazing.

As far as breaking in goes, I'm used to 1,000-1,500 miles for break in. Is this still the case with these motors?

i only made it to 900 miles before taking it to 100+. i've read where others took it straight to the track with no break in.

My buddy's brother took his '12 GT500 road racing with 165 miles on the clock. I'm in no hurry. I autocrossed my '10 with the same buddy but now we will run his '12 Boss. I may run mine when his isn't available but the season will not start until March '13 or so.

Sun is out. Maybe I will be able to post a few pics.

I am no authority on the subject, but I have heard that with these engines, you want to break them in by using them as hard as you will during the rest of the engine's life... aka drive the crap out of it. The logic says that this will have the parts wear/seal in a more aggressive way... or something like that.

I picked mine up on June 10th, with 10 miles, went to track June 11th with 100 miles, and made 5 passes with a best of 13.38 @ 107. Purchased Tuner with 93 octane Tune on June 13th, loaded tune on 20th. Went to track October 11th, made 3 passes with a best of 12.60 @112, and again October 21, made 8 passes with a best of 12.43 @ 113. Had 7800 miles, and not 1 problem. I also hit 141 MPH on the NJ Turnpike, on the way to American Muscle event in Pa.

Grats on the new ride man, When I got my 11' I asked if there was a break in period my dealer said there wasn't one. I drove it like I drove any other car fast. I haven't had any problems with mine about to turn over 30k.

There was a dyno comparison of a vendors test mustang vs a softer break-in car. They did stock vs stock off the lot base lines and then re-base lined after break in, something like a 10-20 hp difference between the two. So at least one instance torwards beating your car during break in.

I've heard something along those lines too, and that the break in period isn't the way it was in the old days. My only suggestion would be get your first oil change at about 1000 miles, gets any possible left over debris from the mgf process outta there.

I went easy the first 500, tore it up until 700 and change and then dumped factory oil for Pennzoil Ultra Synthetic.

Now when I go out I make sure everyone notices a lunatic is behind the wheel. That car only rests when parked. 1600 on the clock, 1100 of that extremely hard driving, with rpms to 6250 nearly every shift unless the Po-Po are around then i am the perfect gentleman, until out of sight, then GAME ON... (Coming out of turn 4 the green flag is out... Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa Wa Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa)

Its hard not to get on it. I've seen the same thing about the oil and break in. I guess I'll let the clutch break in a bit and then let 'er eat!
