Default Oil Consumption?

Has anyone noticed they are "consuming" oil? I have noticed some consumption....1/2 to 1qt between oil changes. Is this normal?

Thanks.

I am surprised that your consumption is that low. If you are running 5W20 and with 11:1 compression, it is going to blow past the rings. Make sure to get you an oil separator, and maybe switch to 5W30. I did both. I am still catching oil in the separator, but, not as much.

I have pretty much accepted that all new cars use some oil. About 1/2 of a quart loss over a 5000 mile oil change interval has been the standard for my last three cars including the mustang.

Completely normal and fairly low if you're running 5w-20. I run Amsoil Signature Series 10w-30 and don't have to add any whatsoever.

Mine finally slowed down, it was burning 2-3 between changes, the last change it was only 1/2 low. 5-6k intervals and at 21k now.

I'm glad to read that it's normal in the 5.0's. My 4.6 didn't burn a drop, even at 100K miles. I haven't done an oil change yet, but have noticed the black build-up on the tailpipes. I also installed an oil separator, that has caught a good deal of oil already. Don't worry, I don't neglect my car, I just bought the car in January and only have 4,000 miles since then.

My ride hasnt burned or used the first drop of oil since new. Now have 3000on the odometer. I know lotsa guys recommend the "drive it like you stole it!" mantra, but they usually forget the part about ONLY AFTER THE ENGINE IS FULLY WARMED UP! So I read some guy bragging how he burned rubber on his way out of the dealers lot with his new hotrod and later hes complaining his car uses oil. There is nothing normal about using a half qt. to a full qt. or more between oil changes. For the record Im using 5w20 and I beat on my cars engine mercilessly after shes warmed up. This has been the case with two Mustang GTs and a Challenger R/T Ive owned.

My 12 was low last time I checked it about 3k miles after oil change, so I took it in for oil change at local dealership. Asked if they had heard of any issues with the 5.0 burning oil off, of course they denied.

i burned about 800-1000mL per 1000mi for the first 15K or so...down to 200-300mL per 1000mi now at 22K.

once i switched to aimsoil 10-30 (top shelf) it dropped drastically.
