Default Help me decide on what oil

I've been searching and can't get a clear answer.

I got an oil change scheduled for tomorrow....I'm done with the Jiffy Lube places. What oil should I go with?

I hear a lot of good things about Mobile 1 as well as the Mobile 1 extended life. is it really worth $9.00 a quart for the Extended life? I think I would feel weird going 15K miles without changing my oil...but its worth it if its totally safe.

I don't mind spending a bit more...but not if I don't have to. My car is a daily driver and during the summer I may hit the race track 2-4 times a month.

While we are on the topic...what oil filter should I grab? Or is whatever the guy using at the garage going to be fine?

So, what do you guys think?

Thanks!

Just did my third oil change this weekend. First one was at 3300 after cross country trip, all of the stock fluid / filter was used. Second one was at 6300 miles and I switched to Mobil 1 5w-50. Just did my oil on Sunday at 14150 miles and it came out darkish but I could see through it. Had an extra quart and ran it through came out good. It works good I think so no problems here lol.

Always run the motorcraft filter from what I was told. I think on my next one I will be switching to AMSoil 10w-30 and respective filter. Buddy runs 10w-30 in his track pack 5.0 and he said it has quieted the motor down a lot.

I will be doing 5000 mile intervals as I beat the sh** out of my car. Anyone else with thoughts?

Is this for warranty reasons or because its a really good filter? ...I THINK motorcraft is what ford uses but I'm not sure.

I was going to grab a mobile 1 filter, royal purple, k&N or any other that has been strongly suggested.

I'm a big fan of Pennzoil Platinum synthetic & Motorcraft filters on the cheap at Walmart and a 10K change interval. Great quailty stuff for a very good price...

I dropped the car off 30 mins ago. I went with a mobile 1 filter and mobile 1 extended life synthetic oil. That combo says its good for 15,000 miles.

I was doing the math last night and it totally makes sense to get the good oil anyway when you compare to going to a jiffy lube etc.

Jiffy lube:
$25.00 per visit (if not more) for crap oil and oil filter every 3K miles. 5 changes will be $125 (give or take) for 15,000 miles on your car.

Getting the good stuff:
$7.00 x 10 quarts = $70.00 (I bought in bulk and only paid $52.00 at walmart)
1 really good filter = $12.00 (at VIP)
oil change from local shop = $15.00
Total investment for the same 15,000 miles = $79.00 (give or take)

Results:
less time wasted, less money paid, and MUCH better oil and filter quality. I will do it this way from now on for sure.

I would not run the oil filter 15K miles. The filter is what traps all the crap from in the engine and you want to replace it on a more frequent interval.

Even if the filter I got was rated for 15,000 miles?

I hear what your saying....cheap insurance to just swap out the filter. but it would also be a major PITA to swap out JUST the filter with oil going everywhere.

You wont lose much oil with just a filter change. maybe 1/3 of a quart if that.

I can live with that. I will have left over oil with this change. Maybe Ill swap it out 1/2 way through at 7,500K miles.
