Default 5.0 just got home from Ford.

Well ive been having problems with my 2011 5.0 and I took it up to ford to get up to date with any TSB's. I initially took it in because I had a awful whine coming from the transmission, that got worse the longer you drove it. I also noticed a hard shift from 1-2 under moderate acceleration. My question is is the hard shifting from 1-2 a tranny problem or more of a shifter design problem? will changing out the tranny REALLY fix this...I believe they are just throwing parts at it.

Forget the dealership they are lost in reguards to dealing with this known issue. If you have a decernable whine they should have replaced your tranny. The fluid that came ith the 2011 trannies is garbage? Have you seen how cheap the stock shifter parts are? Have you considered that poor shifting quality and the loud whine your hearing may be inter twinded? Demand a new tranny and prepare to go to any lenghths to get it. Tell them that when they fill the new tranny make sure they add the new additive that improves shift functions, its from motor craft its called xl-18...

This Motorcraft XL-18 sounds like it will do wonders on a notchy MT82. I am going to start trying to track some down. Here is a link of another conversation about the benefits.

I read on the other forum, (link attached above^) that several guys were using it with both Redline as well as the dual clutch fluid. Its a transmission additive and you only use 27ml which is less than 1 oz. Very Little

Consider the fact that its formulated to work with ford fluids therefore your best results will be with ford fluids!

My opinion (the facts may vary) is that the whine is a bearing problem and a fluid change won't fix it. Replacing the bearing (by itself or as part of a whole new gearbox) will fix it.

The shifting issue is a shifter flex problem and the best solution is the MGW.
