Default Question about air filters

I know, I know, I should just get a CAI + tune, but is anyone using the k&n drop in? I've seen the stories of MAF fouling due to the oil, which is probably due to over oiling. I'm also wondering about the filtration quality. An info or experiences would be appreciated.

I've seen that issue with over oiling before, which is why AFE who manufacturers everything they make inside the United States all based out of California, uses a vegetable based oil. The organic components of the oil itself make it a lot easier on the MAF, and wont gunk it all up like other oils do. AFE decided to make that oil when they received a contract with Toyota TRD to manufacture all their intakes and their filters! Quite cool!

With that said, I've only trusted AFE for my intake system for the last 5+ years, and I've never looked back. I have an AFE intake on my 5.0, and I absolutely love it, but with a panel filter, you'll get the benefit of increased power, without the drawbacks of having to clean out your MAF all the time for over oiling out of the box. They also make a dry version (grey), just in case you don't want to deal with oil at all:

Hope that helps! Message me if you have any questions

I have had both in my car and I prefer the K & N drop in filter. It just seems to run a little better and stronger with it. Not a big difference though.

There's no discernible gain from a drop-in and IMO (from old folklore perhpas but still hard to shake) is that the K&N doesn't filter as well as a paper filter.

Oil contamination is due to over oiling, yes. It takes a bit to get it right. I was using an Amsoil drop-in years ago on an old SUV and was always having MAF issues.
