Every time I have changed my oil and filter, it took only about 7 or 7 1/4 quarts to get it halfway between the fill and full lines. The capacity is 8 quarts, but we probably don't get every drop out when changing it.

Mine took 8Q and was 2/3 up the OK area of the stick. Assume you ran it to fill the filter? I also notice this engine takes a lot longer than most to fully drain back to the pan and get the highest reading.

Did you run the engine for a few minutes and then let it sit after filling? The oil filter needs to fill-up.

+1 that we don't always get every drop out. Just check the level and, if it's where it should be, don't sweat it. After a few more oil changes, you may find that's normal for your car. Also, if the car wasn't level or if the drain hole wasn't the absolute lowest point of the pan, then yeah, you won't get all the oil drained out. No big deal.

i thought i read some were that after you put the 6th qt in let it sit for a few min. before putting in the last 2. maybe that plays a factor.

Not only did you bring up a thread from the dead - from FOUR years ago, but your post does not make sense.
