GLOCKer, your 2014 Mustang GT comes with synthetic blend from the factory. I changed mine before the 1000 mile mark. I have always done this with a new engine. I changed my oil at the 5000 mile mark, then will change it again at around 10,000 miles. I live in Florida, where the temperatures reach 95 daily. Consider that, plus the heat from the asphalt, idling with the A/C on in traffic, and taking the engine up to redline every so often. Changing oil more frequently than every 10,000 miles is more than just "piece of mind". It's just common sense. I paid 29,000 hard-earned dollars for my car, so neglecting it is not an option.

Nonsense. "The book" (aka the owner's manual) says what Ford recommends you do. They're not going to tell you an oil change interval of 10,000 miles is OK then void your warranty if you don't change it at 7,500. That would be patently ****ing stupid and would practically invite all of their customers to sue them.

this is a load of crap. it's your dealer trying to scare you into giving them more money. the owner's manual says to change the oil when the oil life monitor says to, and gives a rough guideline as to when it might tell you the oil needs to be changed. Anyone who says it needs to be done on a set interval (and uses scary language like "warranty in good standing") is only looking to vacuum money out of your pocket.

I'll go 10k miles on full synthetic, maybe more depending on what those 10k were like but only 6k-7k, tops, on the blend. For the first change, some people have the notion that keeping the factory oil in for that 10k helps the break-in period but I don't subscribe to that. If it bothers you, I still wouldn't change it before 5k miles but after that, I'd feel comfortable with a 10k frequency providing I was going to the track.

Decades ago, the theory was to change the factory oil early due to casting grit from the manufacturing process. That isn't an issue since the process has evolved significantly.

My 2013 that I bought with 5,800 miles on it had the change oil light on. What would cause it to come on so early?
The car was very clean and owned by a 60+ year old, the stock tires looked almost new.

the oil life monitor tracks a number of things. a lot of short trips where the engine doesn't get good and warmed up will shorten the oil life due to contamination.

I change mine every 5k regardless. Had a 2013 V-6 and oil monitor usually said 50+% life remaining whenever I took it in. Car always "felt" better after a change, but it's your choice. As far as an oil separator, get one! I never heard of that before I got on this forum, but I got one anyway. Boy, does it work! Can't believe how much oil it catches.
