Question AMSOil Engine Analysis

Been a bit since posting but here goes something new. Last December I swapped from Mobil 1 5w-50 and the motorcraft oil filter at 21k miles to AMSOil 10w-30 and the Ea AMSoil Filter. Now before i tell you how long I ran this oil, this isn't about how you would have done it or what personal beliefs you feel, I just need some assistance in reading the chart I was given.

I ran this oil for 11 months and just shy of 15k miles. This car literally gets BEAT on. I am not one to "baby" this car and she sees 7300-7500 RPMs regularly. SO in terms of use, I beat her like she owes me money. Also I have ran the Bama Cam tune that I usual DD with (which I am sure it doesn't help with anything lol).

This is the first analysis and I plan on doing another, this time at 10K miles. So what exactly is going on the the thing in orange? Any thoughts or anything i should worry about?

PS: I know I my car calls for 5W-50!

Thank you in advance for the information!

which ones, the "multi-source metals" or the "base number?"

The "multi-source metals" means that they could come from a number of places; engine components, contaminants, or oil additives. Manganese and boron compounds are common in oil additive packages; they're just saying the numbers differ than what would be expected for the specified oil. doesn't indicate whether they're higher or lower than expected so that info isn't terribly useful.

The base number, on the other hand (sometimes called Total Base Number or TBN) is one of the key indicators of when your motor oil is "used up." See, when an engine runs, some of the combustion products and byproducts blow past the rings and end up in the crankcase. Among these byproducts are nitric acid and carbonic acid. Motor oils have basic/alkaline additives to neutralize these acids so they don't attack the metal parts of the engine. Eventually the alkali additives get used up, and the oil needs to be changed.

your oil needs to be changed. 15k may have been stretching it. 10-12k might be better.

Amsoil ATM, under severe service (the category which "beat on" puts you in), is good for UP TO 15k miles. I concur on the 10k -12k changes. The Amsoil ASM that I used to use (before reducing my annual mileage on my Stang) would typically get changed at 10k-12k miles and I didn't beat on it.

Okay so as i thought. I will continue to beat her like she owes me money, but this change interval will be exactly at 10,000 miles.

jz788717; I see what you are saying. We will run another 10K miles and see what surfaces. Thanks for the info regarding the breakdown. I see we need additional analysis to get a clear picture.

Default AMSOIL 5W-50 motor oil

AMSOIL does have a 5W-50 oil now. Just came out with it in the past month or so. You can check it out at www.TopPerformanceOils.com

Wow crazy! I was looking for 5w-50 for the longest time. Been running this 10w30 for while and can say that it has worked well.

The whole reason I switched was due to unleashedbeast's write up. Thanks again
