Not so much the video as the audio. You can hear the problem and feel it more than you can see it. I'm holding the accelerator pedal steady. The car is hesitating, and then jumping, hesitating, and then jumping. It's not smooth at all.

well, i would have driven it right back to the dealer and took the tech on a ride while it was happening. as a tech you cant fix what you cant duplicate.

If you get new coils, do not buy aftermarket ones. They tend to cause more issues than they fix. Do you have a check engine light on at all?

possibly crank position sensor? mine misfired a bit a few years ago and that ended up being the problem.

does it happen only after driving for a while?

I get that they can't figure out what's wrong if it isn't happening when they have it. Problem is that if they can't replicate the problem, they are charging me for the rental car now. I bought extended warranty so I wouldn't have these problems, and it's pretty much worthless.

I don't know if it's a misfire causing the problem either, it just steps through acceleration real jerky. Hesitates and jumps then repeats. It usually only happens within the first 15 minutes of running it and then goes away.

After that night, it hasn't done it since. It makes it so hard for anyone to fix.

They have replaced four coils now that they must have been able to show were not right, or they wouldn't have fixed them, right? One of them did trip a CEL. The other three, the tech was actually able to reproduce the problem. He made it a lot better, but it didn't completely get rid of the problem.

The tech told me to keep driving it until it gets worse and then bring it in and they'll go with me to see if we can get it to happen. That way nobody is on the hook for the rental car. Problem is, the dealership is more than 15 minutes away, so by that time, the problem will probably disappear.

I have a Lemur bluetooth scanner I bought to work with my iphone and when I took those audio recordings when the car was having issues, there were no misfires reported.

The Sept 30 scans (when I had the issues) are at the bottom.

Here's a link to all the recording I've been doing:

Here's when the trouble light did come on. Also, I don't know what that power steering low voltage thing is about. Don't think it's related, but has anyone else seen this?

So last month, I got sick enough of the hesitation that I gave in and replaced the other 4 coils with new factory coils and plugs (so all 8 coils and plugs have been replaced), on my own dime (a little over $200, but it wasn't worth the time and hassle it was going to take to keep bringing it back to the dealer under extended warranty, especially since they told me they wouldn't cover a rental car any more).

I could tell right away it was running better. Funny the test equipment can't detect it, but you could just tell by the sound and how it reacted that it was right.

What was kind of weird is that it didn't downshift correctly for about a week after I got the engine running right. Last week, it just started shifting correctly on it's own, and smoothly. I'm thinking the automatic transmission must learn and now that it's running different, it had to relearn the shift points.

It's fun to drive, now. It's nice!

As far as Ford Extended warranty goes, I don't think I'll ever buy it again. They ought to refund me my $200.00. I'll keep checking the mailbox for their check, lol...
