Default BLINKING ENGINE LIGHT.....CYL#8 MISFIRE?!#$... or am I just thinking the worst.

hey guys.... very new to the forums.... I have a 2013 mustang 5.0 that im having issues with... at highway speeds sometimes in 5th at 3-4000rpm (3.73s I do believe) I'm getting a blinking engine light and loss of power for about 30 seconds. I'm not too certain but I could of swore I heard a backfire once. I have a borla atak cat back so its hard to tell. Mods include bama performance race tune/85mm throttle body/roush cai/borla atak cat back. ANY HELP WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED. I did not bring it into ford to diagnose it yet because its now in storage.

We're not going to be able to give you much information - the blinking light tells you that the car is giving a code. But without the code all anyone can do is guess. The code will tell you what is wrong.

Why didn't you take it in for warranty work before putting it in storage? Did you try setting it back to stock and see if the same thing happens?

Yes, take that pony to see the vet (the dealer).

no, a flashing check engine light generally means "repeated misfire, catalyst damage imminent."

Does the computer store these blinking episodes? Can the dealer tools read these codes without the light still blinking? If there's no snow on the ground when I get back I may have to brave the elements and get it to Ford. I did try to put the car back to the stock tune and it didn't blink or lose power..... But I don't daily it and it doesn't happen all the time anyway. It may have done it if I put over a few hundred clicks on it every 3 weeks. I did re upload the same bama tune as well... Like I said it only did/does it at constant highway speeds at 3-4rpm I'm not a fan of 6th gear haha

Im hoping it's something small and doesn't translate to an engine rebuild on my dime.

Thanks for the input anything else would be appreciated

Ford's IDS software and any decent code reader can see both intermittent historical codes as well as hard codes that are on all the time. Depending on your skill set, I'd pull the number 8 coil on plug, move it to another cylinder and see if the problem follows it. while in there, I'd pull the number 8 spark plug and inspect it. If you're mechanically inclined and have the tools, a full compression test on all 8 wouldn't hurt.

Worried about warranty, put everything back to stock and have it towed to the dealer. Ford has roadside assistance you are still eligible for. Tow the car and submit the bill to them for reimbursement.
