smog pump removal
I want to remove my smog pump, it is already disconnected from the headers, the pipe going down to the exause is just open, but it looks like tubes run to the back of the heads. What do you do to plug these off and can it be done while the engine is still in the car??? Looking at just putting an idler in place of the old pump. Lots of clutter in that area with the supercharger. Usless any way.
thanks

RE: smog pump removal
There are threaded plugs made just for the back of the heads. You can order them from Summit. If you have someone local who rebuilds heads, they will likely have some as well. There are only $1.50

No fine here. Classic plates in PA doesnot require and emissions test. Thanks for the warning though. I will try my local machine shop to see if they have plugs for the heads, can these plugs be installed while the engine is still in the car?? I could run a shorter belt, but that would not clean up the look of the engine area.

RE: smog pump removal
I Just removed my smog pump and catalytic converters/ mufflers in order to run true straight pipes out the side under the doors of my 89. Be sure to plug the vacuum lines as well as the heads. I wound up running a 74.7 inch 6 rib serpentine belt. that's with just the power steering pump, stock idler/tensioner pulley, underdrives on the alternator, crank and water pump. The car sounds like a v twin motorcycle when I get on it with just the 3 inch open pipes. IT'S LOUD!
