New here but Did'nt I read on here that someone is selling heads that are already prepped for around a grand. Are the benifits worth it ? What is the diff between a stock 8 plug head. Have'nt gotten my Stang yet. Narrowed down to a red 88 w/rebuilt eng/trans or aqua 93 low miles. Looking for good mpg . Id be willing to drop 1k on a head for mpg or more power.

The 8 plug head is still a SOHC, the volvo head is a DOHC.

I wouldn't do the swap unless you want power. The volvo head flows a freaking tune better than the stock 2.3 head.

For MPG I would just port match the intake to the head, a bigger exhaust (2.25") and a CAI for better mileage.

Was running a completly stock engine with a CAI and I was getting 32-34mpg hwy

I picked up one of those heads last week and sold it. Not interested in the work involved. If I was going to try a differant head it would be the 8v volvo head. It did come out turbo. So exhaust manifold would not have be made maybe. Flows almost as good as the 16v. This is all per Volvo guy at turboford.net. Here is some pictures of the head I got.

Here is more pictures in more detail.

I realize 8plug is sohc , I was just asking if there is a benifit on a na motor. But thanks for the info and clarification. What I was trying to say is that I think someone is selling volvo heads already prepped, but cant confirm since I cant remember where I read it. Well time to go to work, another day another 50 cents.

Someone on TF is making the cylinder head a direct bolt on, but it's going to cost arouns $1000-$1500 for the work done then you need a standalone system just to get it to work right,

There is one on evil bay that has the block welded on it. Ouch price is over a 1000. I got this one cheap, cheap. The person I sold it to got a extremely good deal. I just wanted to pull one and see one in real life. I would have probably bought it just to foul around with. And if I see another for this price I will get it for you. I will PM with what I pd for it.

1000 -1500 doesn't seem high if the head is ready to drop on. Didn't even think obout what else needed to be done to get it to work. It's all the reast of the changes you need to get it working right, as you said. Money you can use on a turbo swap. Cheaper in the long run unless you do the volvo head w/turbo motor. Just wishing out loud.
