The use of a nitrous solenoid on a trurbo car is illegal by NMRA rules. Had he used a different solenoid perhaps it wouldn't have been a problem. However, at that point the prupose of the solenoid would have been questioned. Remember the protest requested the tracing of the lines from the CO2 bottle. Normally the CO2 bottle will have 2 lined, one to the chutes off of a regulator, one to the boost controller. However his car had three lines, one of which was a high pressure #6 line (the CO2 lines are normally plastic, all though I have seen them done in braided before just never that large).

The suspicion was that the line was going to the intake or the exhaust and that he was either boot strapping the turbo or spraying it. Since the parachute and boost controller run off of regulators there is no reason that you could not fill the bottle with Nitrous at 1000lbs and use the nitrous to operate the other functions of the car while enhancing performance turbo. The fact that the car would sometimes run a 7.6 then turnaround and run a 7.4 while both runs looking the same makes one wonder. He wasn't shaking the tires, so why the huge difference??? The thought was that since he had no way to purge pressure (since it wasn't supposed to be there) he sometimes over pressured the bottles and locked up the solenoid....at those times the car would appear to run quite a bit richer then even normal.

Either way it's a moot point since he refused to allow the Tech inspection to continue after they found the nitrous solenoid. Was it spraying the turbo??? No one knows.

It should be noted that aside from the hose he had gone to extensive lengths to hide the solenoid and it's purpose. The car even had a fabricated secret compartment. If you didn't trace the lines from the CO2 you wouldn't have found it. If you didn't know what to look for and where it might be you wouldn't find it.

I guess in fairness I should also mention that I was at the event.

I help crew the Richard Leslz Strictly Performance car (the protesting driver). I was privy to the reasoning behind the protest and helped make the decision to protest.

I am only putting out unbiased information (at least that is my intent). It was an unfortunate situation, with an unfortunate out come.

I just felt it proper to divulge my affiliation.

Hey I just want to be honest about things. Don't want anybody saying I'm partial, which in this case I guess I am to a degree. But I'm trying to leave that out.

There has been way to much internet bullying regarding the events of the ATCO race and I'm trying to stay away from that.

I just wanted to put out some factial information about why the protest, what was protested, and the results.

As I said they were suspended for failure to comply with a tech tear down. There was no proof that they were or were not cheating.

As far as being a big shot......nah, I just take up space on the RV!!

That and run the video camera!

I read yellow bullit but I don't post. Just not my kind of thing, I'm a little old for the crowd you might say!

Failing to comply with a tear pretty much implies that he was in fact using the nitrous. I mean if you are not cheating, why not let them tear you down? I know what it's like on the NMRA man, I crewed on a F/S car and on a R/S car a number of years ago. Lots went down at Atco this time around.

So, what I'm basically getting out of this is that by refusing the tear down he is in essence using his "Fifth Amendment" card so to speak? It doesn't look good and probably is a solid indicator of his guilt, but technically it isn't an admission of guilt, right?

Well yes in away he took the 5th. Not an admission of guilt but it does look bad.

Hence NMRA's stiffest penalty, 2 year suspension.

I agree with you. If I was accussed of cheating I would take the car down to the wheels to prove I wasn't. Then I'd go buy beer with the protestors money (if you loose the protest the protested team gets the money you have to put up) and put my car back together....but that's just me.
