Default Where to buy a 289/302 Dependable Long Block Engine

Hello,
I have a 1966 Mustang that currently has a stock 289 engine that needs to be rebuilt. I have estimates of getting it rebuilt and it seems to be cheaper to buy a newly rebuilt stock long block engine. Some place on the web sell them for $1,100 and give you a great warranty. I was wondering if anyone has purchased an engine and knows where the best place to buy one is. I want a dependable engine, not look for anything extravagant. I prefer not to buy an engine from a private seller because the one I have in my mustang now is my second engine that the guy i bought it from claimed it was a good engine (lost $500, ohhh well!). I appreciate all suggestions!

Default Good Reliable Engine

Blueprint 5.0 Roller Motor from Jegs (much more power than stock 289) = $1600

.... and if you want to have a little more fun ($800 for everything you'd need),
throw in a Comp Cams 281HR

Or do like I did and find a good/reputable local place and get a 400 HP long block
built for "close to" the same amount ...

Download the Comp Cams calculator software ... it's fun to look at the possibilities !

might want ot pick up a 5.0 late model mag from the book store, normally they have 331 and 347 long blocks for just a couple dollars more

just my 2 cents

347>302

Default Power Source Engines

Found a place,
http://www.psengines.com/
Power Source. They sell rebuilt 302 engines for around $1,200! They have a 3 year 100K mile warranty and will even cover labor if anything goes bad.

yep, so is blueprint. But you can't beat Jaspers warranty.3 yr/100,000mi. they break it for you, check the stuff before you get it. Comes with a new oil pan.

I got mine from Rhino, delivered to my door for around 1100.00 IIRC. They even date coded it for me so they must have a huge inventory of cores. Same warranty as Jegs and the others. Bought it 3 years ago and its still running perfect. Hope this helps!

except for originality, a late model 5.0 has too many advantages over rebuilding a 289.
