Question Problems with 96' Mustang GT transmission

Ok so I have a 96' Mustang GT completely stock, the transmission has recently been acting up. First it howls sometimes (My guess throwout bearing), and doesn't like to go into 5th gear without grinding (most of the time I can eliminate this by double clutching it). My other dilemma is my rear main seal is leaking (onto the transmission). There is also a ticking that comes from the engine constantly.

My main question is how long would it take to fix all of this? and what parts should I use to fix these problems? I heard the King Cobra clutch is decent, but should I also just replace everything in there? I'm planning on getting the clutch kit, and probably a new fork. I don't have much experience with transmissions at all generally I try to stay away from them, but this is getting bad so any info would help tremendously!

first things first, clutch and transmission are two very different things lol, some people like the king cobra some people don't, its about personal prefrence i guess. As for the ticking in your engine thats not a good thing but you need to be more specific about where its coming from. It could be valve chatter it could be a Rod knock (you would probably know if it was) could be a sparkplug about to backout of the head, theres alot of different things. your synchro in 5th gear could simply be going bad, its a common problem for mustangs not so much in 5th but still.

As for how long it would take, it depends on what exactly the problem is and how mechanicly inclined you are. Also, i would do the fork LAST do yourself a favor and stay away from your tranny as long as possible unless you're positive thats the problem.

I guess my main problem is the rear main seal, its leaking like crazy. I figured since I have to take the tranny off to replace that I would just do it all at once. The clutch does chatter quite a bit after its warmed up. The ticking noise comes from right about where the transmission is bolted to the engine (pretty much right behind/under the radio).

Yeah i have had issues with reverse grinding a lot and sometimes popping out, do you know if an 11 inch clutch will fit on the GT's 10.5 inch, or are they different bolt patterns? thanks a lot for the help guys

your sincros and blocker rings are going bad. i would also look at your shift linkage to see if anything is bent or busted.
