Re-read the whole article again, it clearly states that it edges the WRX STI not by much though

And when we say "plenty," we mean it: the revised WRX now blasts to 60 mph from a standstill in an electrifying 4.7 seconds. That's 1.1 seconds quicker than the 2008 model—and get this—0.3 second quicker than we've managed in a WRX STI, the supposedly higher-performance version of the WRX. The fact that the WRX is now substantially quicker seems absolutely bonkers, but there are a couple of good explanations. First, the WRX STI weighs a hearty 180 pounds more than the base WRX, according to our scales. Second, the STI and its closer-ratio six-speed manual call for two shifts to 60, while the regular WRX's five speed hits 60 mph in second gear. By the time the pair travel a quarter-mile, the '09 WRX loses some ground, though; both cross the line at 102 mph, with the base Rex edging out the STI by just 0.1 second, 13.5 to 13.6.

Yes, the 09 WRX will keep up with an s197. In the 1/4. And on the street from a dig the advantage goes handily to the WRX. It's 0-60 is clearly a step up over the s197.

Read the links people.
Well use your brain. It's owning it from a dig just as the last gen. rex did. It's down on horsepower to the GT by a good margin. Look at the trap speed, a Mustang GT is faster. Just be wary of racing one from a dig but eventually you will run him down and from a roll you got him.

This was the original article that was posted, I didn't realise the new ones were that much faster

How did they manage a 13.5 out of 260 hp wrx and a 13.5 out of a 305 hp sti?

I haven't read the article yet but that sounds like a glory pass to me. I think your alot more likely to see high 13s out of a wrx. Which makes it a good race for the average GT driver. But I'd still have to put my money on the GT if I was a betting man.

well I know the sti's are faster than mid 13's in the hands of a decent driver, so I guess thats part of it

But 13.5 with a 3300lb 265 hp car is amazing

I think the STI has a six speed and the WRX will hit sixty in 2nd gear.

And the older WRX usually tested mid 5s for 0-60. Maybe it still bested the s197 from a dig but I think it was a lot closer than it will be with this new one.

It does make you wonder how they will step up the STi to far out-match the regular WRX though doesn't it?

I raced one at my local 1/8th mile last week. The best he ran was a 9.0@78mph. Obviously, there was some driver error. Although I still think I could have easily beaten him if he was a great driver.
