Default Value of a 1969 Mustang Coupe

Hey all...I was wondering if someone with a bit of knowledge of the current market could give me an idea as to what the worth of a restored 1969 Mustang Coupe. The car is a one owner piece, and he put in a 351 Cleveland a few years back. I will list some of the other features below and attach a few pics. If someeone could give me an idea what they believe the car is worth it would be greatly appreciated.

-1969, Wimbledon White
-351 Celeveland, 4 barrel
- Ford 9 inch rear end, 373 gears
- c6 auto transmission
-electric fuel pump
-750 double pumper

I personally wouldn't pay more than $7000 for it, without pics. Sounds like a nice car.

Specs look good, but what matters is the condition, and originality to a lesser extent. I've been offered $20k for mine, with much lower specs than that, so it all depends on what condition it's in and if you can find a buyer.

Location is a big factor too. A lot of southern places have tons of rust-free bodies just laying around, the farther north the more expensive. Good luck finding even a rusty classic Mustang in need of a restoration for less than $7000 around here. Depending on where you are in NY classics may fetch a faily high price, even coupes.

You got that right. Illinois is right up there in price. Not many of them for sale either.

The market for classic cars is soft in general. The only way to get an accurate appraisal is to look at the current sales in the area you are interested in of similar vehicles. Checking the asking price helps to a broad degree since you never really know what the actual selling price is in most cases, but it will narrow down the value for you. You can do this online in minutes by checking cars for sale from both private parties in pubs like the Trader and Hemmings, etc, Mustang mags and forums that have a trading/buy/sell sub forum, ebay, or places like online auctions and dealer websites.

There are also services like carfax if you want to do that, but some of them will not work with cars that do not have a 16 digit vins (older vehicles).

Remember, with classics, there is a super-big grey area with the condition of the car's infrastructure. An ad that is offering a cherry auto with a new looking chromed-out engine bay may have crap brakes or flood rust. To really get an accurate appraisal, one has to really look at many cars for sale/sold.

Good luck. I hope our cars are worth a ton. I'd like to know myself so I can make proper adjustments to my insurance.

Tim
