First post for me, been reading a long time but until now I never needed to post a question.
I have a '06 V6 with 45k miles on it. Driving home when it happend. I read several post on this issue. Everyone was talking about all kinds of things that could be the cause.
I hooked up a scan tool and it came up with "throttle/pedal position sensor" issue. I just want to know if I need to replace the Throttle body. If not what can I do to avoid this?

You could always try cleaning it but when i got this i had to replace mine

 

what is this "limp home" mode?

 

Not that expensive to replace though... i didnt think anyways.

 

the throttle body is ok, its the TPS - throttle position sensor, that is the problem.
Did you clear the code and try disconnecting the battery to see if it clears the issue?
Are you tuned or stock?

 

I purchased my car with 20k on the clock and a week into it I experienced "Limp Home Mode." Tell you what, IMHO it is a very UNSAFE mode, especially when your doin 70 down the highway and it engages. I understand it's trying to protect the engine, but still pretty unsafe for the driver. Anyways, took mine to the dealership and they tested the TPS since it was stating that is what it was. They replaced it and it did the same thing. Took it back, got a new TB, and it hasn't done it since. If your out of warranty, nows the time to upgrade to an aftermarket TB

What the dealer told me is the engine shuts down to run on 4 cylinders (not too sure bout you sixxers), wont go over like 45 miles an hour, and limits your RPM's. The vehicle does this to prevent further damage if it feels something is messed up. Again, doin 70 down the highway, followed by Limp Home Mode engaging = disaster! I almost got rearended when the SONOFABITCH did it!!!! Think about when a dog hurts its leg, it "limps home" all gimp style. Your car does the same thing.

 

But isn't the TPS built into the Throttle Body. Well as soon as I got home (since it happened so close to my house) I shut the engine off and turn it on again and it went away. Today I hooked a scan tool to it and it had a "throttle/pedal position" code. I cleared them. But it might happen again.
I am bone stock, nothing done to it.

 

It's just screwed into the right side of the TB. I can't think of anything in the throttle body itself that would cause the problem but based on kingsofcrunk's post it is possible (kingsofcrunk: are you sure they really replaced the tps and didn't just clear the code and waited to see if would came back?). I would pick up a new one and swap it out. Keep the old one and if it happens after the swap you have a good spare and probably need a new TB.

 

Yea I was their when they put it in, drove off, and later it happened again. There was another GT owner here that the same thing happened to his, and turns out hits TB was cracked.

 

I might wait until it does it again, then I will replace the TPS. If it does it again after that, I will replace the TB with a nice aftermarket one. It just seems like alot of people have the same exact issue but did different things that made it go away (...for now atleast).
