I always thought that the reasson why people called the 89-93 mustangs 302's was because it has that much hp... but apparantly they only have 225hp so why call it 302?

they call it the 302 because thats the cubic inch the engine has, like for example the 289 thats the cubic inch of the 4.6 GT

289 is the old engine - predates the 302 (same block iirc), and it's 4.7L
4.6 is a completely different motor, and 30240 is right, it's 281 cid.
The Jeep 4.7L v8 is 287 cid iirc, and the chevy 5.0 is 305.

5.0 is a misnomer on Fords, unless you've gone and bored it out a tad (.030"). Really the 302 should round down to 4.9L, as it's something like 4949cc's.

actually the displacement of the 302 is more closer to the liters of 4.9 but ford already had a 4.9 liter motor[300 inline six] so they rounded up to a 5.0

Not exactly true - '5 dot oh' sounds cooler than '4 dot nine'. On the Explorer window stickers they were advertised as 4.9L V8's.

But the actual displacement was very close to being 5.0-legal rounding, only a couple of cubic centimeters off, like 4948 or 4949 like I said before. But the cutoff for 5.0 is 4950.

302 is the cid (cubic inch displacement)

i always laugh when ricers say what the engine is by the number of CCs. they try to make it sound big or something. *L*
