I honestly wouldn't spend the time or money tearing it apart to bring compression down. Run an intercooler, preferably air to water, and keep the timing extremely conservative. 8 lbs. from an hx50 should put you right at 400-430 rwhp.

Why would you go supercharger route just because he doesn't have forged internals? Turbo's are more efficient and way easier on the motor. 400hp is still a ton of fun even if the internals aren't forged.
