They might work, but it would take a bigass cam to get enough pressure on the injectors. The Common Rail with Piezo Injectors is the way to go, 36000 psi fuel pressure with up to 7 injector firings per cycle hell yeah.
edit, how about dropping a Series 50 into an F150 or 250, sure it will shake itself to pieces but 1200 ft/lb of torque from an I4 stock isn't bad. Thats if you can keep the pistons from shattering the cylinder walls (which they do ALOT).
