I spoke with Jim Sr today regarding this whole "blow your engine" issue and he indicated that JDM has several cars running the 3.0 pulley with stock internals with no issue. Based on the discussion I had with him, alot of it has to do with the gas you use. While not necessary, he indicated that for peace of mind I could put in 5 gallons of VP MS 103 per full tank... Given their reputation and that they make their living tuning these cars (and racing them), I have no reason not to believe him.
