Don't know where you're at, so maybe not. But yes, I do just that. Here's my 6:15 AM workday drill in S. Jersey when there's heavy frost or (so far) light ice.
Start car, defrost, fan on high, temp all the way up. Put driver seat heater on. Turn off traction control. Lock car with the fob, go back in the house, brush teeth, grab coat, hat, and everything else I'm bringing with me that day, and by the time I get settled back in to the car with my seatbelt on, it's mostly melted. Hit the wipers a couple of manual pulses and it's usually ready to go.
Side benefit - the car actually gets fully warmed up, so there's a much better chance that the moisture gets boiled out of the oil. My commute is less than 4 miles in light traffic, and on a cold day this cold-blooded aluminum 4.6 would need all of that and then some if I just hopped in and drove off.
