2 or 4 brl carb on an i6?
i have seen many i6s with modified carbs, and intakes. any one know whats needed to up my i6 to a 2 or 4 brl. which is better for the i6?(how much power will i get?) and how much is involved? it looks like all ill have to do is drop out the old intake / swap in the new one and set up the carb. am i missing anything? Thanks.

Yes, it's possible. there are some adaptors that can be had that allow you to put a 2V carb on your intake, possibly with a little drilling involved.
That said, there's not a lot of point in a 2V conversion with the factory head. The problem is the crappy intake log. The design starves cylinders 1 and 6, so even if you put a bigger carb on there, you're still not getting a good mix to each cylinder. Furthermore, that intake log is part of the head casting, so it's not something you can change by itself.
There are two solutions to this:
1) Offenhouser used to make an adaptor plate that allowed you to add two more 1V carbs to the intake. It requires a little bit of machining, but I've heard it works fairly well i you can find one. Clifford Performance may make them as well.
2) Go grab yourself a later-model 250 head from a truck. It'll probably have to be milled to get compression back up, but you'll then be able to buy complete aftermarket intakes for it that allow you to run a 2V or 4V carb.
Go check out Clifford Performance and Fordsix. Both sites have plenty of performance knowledge and goodies for the I6 crowd.

Might even turn out that the dual DFAV 32/36 carb installation would work best overall once you get the linkage properly synch'ed. Run around mostly on the two small primaries but have secondaries for both when the need arises. That carb was OE on ~122 CID engines that would run past 7000 rpm, so the pair would be as much as any of these pushrod IL-6's would ever need.
An inline 6 would really like the intake and exhaust systems both split up into the front 3 and back 3 cylinders anyway.

are we talking a 200-250? o a 240-300?
To install a 2 or 4bbl on a 200-250 requires milling the integrated CI intake, making an aluminum adapter or offy used to make a 3 1bbl conversion, you would grind off the top half of the intake and install a new top half which bolts on using 3 stock 1 bbl carbs with a progressive linkage, if its a 240-300 there is 2bbl an 4bbl manis available.
One trick way to beef up the 200 six is to adapt a chrysler k car 1 bbl thottle body efi, use an aftermarket computer like mega squirt or even a gm computer.
This can add about 15hp 20 ft lbs and about 3-4 mpgs.

Clifford wants too much money for their kit. I got all I needed for $100. I got the cheap adapter though.
Buy the Holley/Weber adapter from Clifford, buy the Holley/Weber from Stovebolt and ask for the electric choke also. My grandfather is running this on his 66 and used a different linkage and made it work. This will run you about $145-150.

I'm in the process of getting parts for my dizzy swap. Should have the swap done this weekend. Going from stock dizzy w/ pertronix ignitor and messed up spark advance to 78 Granada electronic ignition duraspark dizzy with control module.
