This person gave you a hint about how he/she rates their own car with the cracked paint job being a 7 out of 10. I give a cracked paint job a 3-4 out of 10 or maybe less. That state is known for its cloudy and rainy days and ranks as one having the highest in the lower 48 (if not the). I would call and get down to the specifics of where the rust is before you drive.

 

what is with all you Washington haters? At least it is green here and not a dust bowl like southern California. LOL I think that is a high price. If the paint is cracked the interior needs to be redone and the engine isn't that great but it runs, and there is rust I would be wary and look it over good. My car sat out in the rain for who knows how many years in washington and I am still finding holes to fix.

 

Pure rat. It doesn't even have the export brace on it, so there's a good chance the shock towers are cracked. The lack of bracing is indicative of how the car was cared for. It wasn't. JUNK. Please don't give me the opportunity to say I told you so.

 

I think it looks like a decent Mustang. If you just want a nice looking driver quality car then its probably ok.

I would definitely get him to email you a bunch more pictures before you drive over to look at it.

I would say from the sounds of things that its probably worth closer to 9-10k or maybe less depending on how it runs and drives.

How do you know it doesn't have an export brace. I don't see any underhood pictures?

 

I bought my '68 fastback last year from a gentleman in Long Island,NY and we never met in person and i say , yes , it's doable , but you have to make your dilligence and "test" the seller .What you should do:

1.Have the seller email you the vin # of the car (with pictures of it) along with the door plate #'s and research the car oline with VIN DECODER.

2.Try to have the seller fax you a copy of the title and check (via phone) with the local DMV department.

3.Get the seller's full name,all phones,email , etc. and google him and his address along with the local online tax assesor's office to make sure he lives there and is not a scammer.

4.Hire a respectable company , such as : www.automobileinspections.com and pay $250.00 and they will go and do a 200 point inspection of the car along with 80 pictures(and have them take a picture of the car's tag,title and seller's driver licence to "verify" identity.

5.Find car transporters in that area through google,yahoo, etc. and call them to get quotes , you will be surprised how cheap they can be (under $1,000) because they haul many cars at once.

6.Alternatively (and the best way , when possible) take a cheap flight (one way) with spirit airlines or SW airlines , stay at the local holiday inn and go yourself and do all of it in person (go with cash on hand) and when you close the deal , rent a hitch and small truck ($20.00 per day) and haul the car yourself to your home.(if you drive all the way back and forth it won't hurt to bring a friend and/or your gun , just in case)

7. As soon as you get the seller's name , check him out on the local sheriff department online database to make sure he is not a scammer , usually those scumbags already have a criminal record.

8.Somewhere along the way , if you can get a copy of the seller's driver license , it will help you to ensure a "clean" deal.

All this steps can be taken in whatever order that works for you but remember the more information , the better;You don't want to get scammed or robbed of your hard earned money and there is plenty of vermin out there who wants to put their hands on your pocket.In my case , I had no choice because down in South Florida these cars are hard to find and no one wants to sell or they want crazy money , so i was extra careful but it paid off and i had a great deal and i brought the horse home.BE SAFE!!!

 

Why would the outside look like that, but the engine compartment and interior be trashed? Talk about lipstick. I would take a magnet with you to check for bondo fenders. $12k is pretty cheap for a sportroof that is in decent shape. Keep you eyes open.

Biggest problem we have where I live in Oregon is :Rusted floor pans from the inside out/Moldy rubber seals/and cowl vents clogged with debris.
And of course if you live on the coast where the salt air mist settles on your paint job every night then you drive on the wet roads in the mornings,the salt goes where air does.


It seems like a sketchy deal to me,Like someone else said it may be the truth,Just not the whole truth.

 

I looked at the craigs ad again. He must have edited the pictures, becaust the first time I saw it there were not any interior or underhood pics.

He doesn't even have the stock wimpy 2 peice export braces on it. That doesn't make any sense. I would definitely be concerned about damage caused by not having them. Maybe they were just removed to work on the motor, but I doubt it.
