a camshaft will be your biggest bang for the buck. For about 200 dollars, it'll but you at about 200rwhp. Contact me via e-mail at AF1Doerr@aol.com and I can put you in good hands to get the right camshaft. Also, if you've got the money, get some P&P heads and intakes. Since you need to remove the heads to change the valve springs, you might as well change them out for better ones while they're off, same goes for the intakes if they're off you might as well get better ones. Finally if you have enough money for this, I would recommend getting an underdrive pulley and a Cold air induction kit. These two mods alone will give you about 10-15 more hp, and put you at about 205bhp.
thnx a lot bro .. i live in Richmond, VA ... i know nothing about the smog inspection. now how much power would the camshaft give me ... i was thinking of installing a dual exhaust with flowmaster mufflers..
i have a new cam in my car, it added some serious power but i put it in myself. if you have a shop put it in it will cost triple that of the cam. go with easy stuff like intake, exhaust, bigger TB and 1.8 roller rockers. my car made over 230 rwhp before the cam with simple bolt-ons.
Definitely one of the first things you should do is slap on the dual exhaust, but I recommend you get the Magnaflow catback. Also do some reading throughout the V6 section you will find a lot of helpful post. I actually just got finished give a newbie a lot of good info on some V6 mods.

I wanna call a HUGE B.S. flag on this post. 230rwhp with just bolt-ons? That's impossible. Unless you're counting heads and intakes as bolt-on, this is complete mis-information. I would believe maybe 230bhp and that's pushing it, but you're seriously going to say bolt-ons added about 70-80rwhp to your car??? Your car has 193bhp stock, so about 155-160rwhp. Oh brother......
i got 1.8 roller rockers, better valve springs, dyno tuned diablo chip, longtube headers with bassani cats and fow 30s, pro-m mass air, custom 3.5 inch intake manifold spacer, phelonic spacer for intake manifold, bbk 70mm tb, port matched tb to intake manifold, royal purple synthetics in engine, tranny and rear end, and some more stuff i can't remember. i don't have heads or intake manifold. and before you call b.s. remember the pre-99 v6s wer rated almost 40 hp less than the 99+ v6s. my car runs 14.095@96.64 before DA correction. what do you have done to your car to have 280-290 hp? what is your time in the 1/4? judging by your 1/8 mile time mid-14s is my guess. my hp is rated at the wheels where it counts not the flywheel.

Well I know that I started out 40hp less but still with out heads or itakes done, I still wanna call B.S. until you can produce some sort of dyno without the cam installed. I've got everything done that is physically possible. And those times I have posted are from about 2 years ago when I had almost nothing done. I've got a 4.2 Stroker, BV heads, poly honed intakes, 60mm TB, 224/230 cam, 1.73rr, UD pulley, CAI, O/R H-pipe w/ 40-flows, aluminum driveshaft, 3.45 w/t-lok, SCT tuning & racer package and a SPEC stage II clutch to just name a few of my mods.
i would gladly post the dyno sheets if i had a scanner. the whole key to my car is it has been completely tuned on the dyno. as you know, the 99+ had split port induction, like vtec, my car's spi system is locked open. when itis shut there is 15 less rwhp all through the powerband. return the spi system to stock and i would have roughly 220 rwhp.
