I've been reading Mustang history as provided by Edmunds and have a question regarding the 3.8 V-6 . In the 1999 Mustang model year "significant" revisions increased horsepower from 150 HP to 190 HP. No clue in the article about those revisions to the 3.8. I'm curious as to what revisions Ford made that boosted the horsepower so dramatically?

Thanks for any insight on this question.

Dennis

They went from a single port to a split port.

hey, question. sorry, this is a little off topic but i was wondering how powerful could i make my 3.8 2001? i want to throw a twin turbo in it, and i know that would cost a lot, because you have to change the trans. and the pistons, and valves and all of that. but how much power could i get in that car without spending more then 10g and if i could even get a twin for under 10?

P.S. i know half of you will say just get a gt but i really like my car and have wanted to tune it up for a while.

To the guy who bought the f150 engine wise as far as I know they are identical to the mustangs other than the crank so you can pretty much mod them the same and for 10k hit I highly doubt you could do a full TT build for that much but a FULL m112 build could be In that ball park

I would never tell anybody to get a GT, a 4v yes, and LS1 yes, a GT hell no!

You could just do a single kit for 3800$, a forged short block for 2800$ If you do the install yourself, then 8.8 rear end and fuel mods (bigger injectors / pump) I could see you getting 450-500rwhp out of about 10,000$

oh wow! thats a lot more then i thought i could get! well thats cool. ok, thanks. now i just need to figure out where i want to spend my money to get the most power for the buck.
And do you know a good place where i could find a decent exhaust system w/ cool air intake? one that will increase power, and sound nice?

Would you suggest a larger aftermarket throttle body as a simple mod? They're much easier to install and are cheaper to install than new headers, so why shouldn't this be one of the first ones you would make?
