dude in my opinion (which may not matter) pypes sound like crap and its a turn down system so it will look like your system now except there will be one on each side (not very visually noticable, ive seen something like that on a camaro). your car is a 97 right? id search for the flowmaster catback for cheap. the part number is 17276. it will sound better than the pypes system(again in my opinion) and you will have the tips that stick out past the bumper instead of turn down, giving you a better dual exhaust look.

They check to make sure cats are there and if you have aftermarket parts they check CARB numbers or look for the sticker the part comes with saying its legal.
Now that I have LT's I will need to figure out something else, But I'm planning on putting the LT's on, towing the car to the exhaust shop, and having them make a short X to mate the LT's to the GT pipes.
Why not just drive it there? It will be loud as f*ck but you don't have to pay for towing.
To to op, true dual will sound 10 times better than that stupid ypipe back. Trust me, I had it. The true duals flow better and sound great, below 3k rpms. The way I see it your looking at 3 options, forget the pypes kit.
1.) You could get gt takeoffs for like $100 and 2 thrush's for what $100ish and have it all installed for $100-200 so, $400 total.
2.) Find the gt cobra midpipe $100 probably and then buy a gt cat-back $500ish and there will be some welding so $100 install which will be $700 give or take. It will probably sound/flow a little better than option 1.
3.) Save the extra money and do it all right the first time. Find a good deal on lt's, gt cat-back, high flow cats welded on the mac hpipe, and all the odds and ends that goes with it. For the extra $600 you will pick up much better performace gains up top and an amazing sound below 3,000 rpms.

I really think the GT take off dual exhaust flows more than enough for a V6 and sounds better because it give the car a mild tone which sounds better on a V6. Besides all of that the cost is not much and I believe the exhaust is all stainless which would last a long time.
03Shadows car does sound pretty good. It definitely sounds a hell of alot better than most of the V6 Mustangs I have heard with aftermarket exhaust.
