Default is it worth 400 to go 4.3?

I talked with the guys from SSM today and they told me that it would cost me an additional 400$ plus an additional 3 weeks if I wanted to go from the forged piston 3.8 shortblock to the 4.3. What do you guys think. Is it worth the extra money and wait time? Would I see any power increase just by going to 4.3?

by upping it .5 liters your deff going to see an increase in torque, prolly atleast 40-50ftlbs. i'm not very knowledgeable about the 3.8's but i'd say if your going with a new shortblock might as well go for the biggest and baddest, plus 400 isn't that much more really.

Honestly I have no idea lol.. I started this project thinking ahh i jsut want to beat a GT.. Then i was like you know what.. I dont want any competition lol.. If everything goes as planned I will be doing the turbo.. Prior to the turbo if I am not mistaken I should have in the area of 365hp.. that is going based on taking manufacturer hp numbers for all the mods and taking the lowest numbers they provide.. So it came out around 365hp.. plus i have a 75 shot of nitrous going in so that will boost me to around 440... my entire goal for this setup is to get above 500 which with the turbo wont be a problem since the engine will be built to handle the power.. i could probably even go higher to to over 600hp but i am thinking i will be happy with just the nitrous for a while lol.. the most hp i have ever driven as far as cars go was my 2003 CTS which had like 240 or 260 in a heavy cadillac... i mean my truck has 345 but thats a truck.. so this should be fun...

3.8 to 4.3 is the way to go.

Well no... the whole SSM upgrade (the 4.3 shortblock and power pak stage 3) is going to give me approx 120-130hp... the extra 50hp is from things like exhaust, intake, throttle body, headers, intake spacer, underdrive pulley, etc... but its not just about hp.. its about having a built engine that can handle more stress then a stock engine.. i mean would you really want to put a supercharger or turbo on a stock engine and fear everytime you get on it that you are gonna mess something up.. at least with this out of the way when the time comes to get on it whether it be now or later with the supercharger or turbo i wont have to be afraid to really get on it.. i know ssm said that the forged 3.8 could handle 450-500 easy so i am guessing the 4.3 will be able to handle more than that... like i said my goal is to get around the 500 mark.. i think the car is gonna be sick but we will see...
