The advice my dad gave me when I had my 68 straight 6 (same reasons why your parents made you buy the V6 lol)
Once I graduated and could "do what I want" I started looking at V8 swaps....pretty much comes down to this $$ wise
IF you want a V8 car...buy a V8 car....always cheaper hands down. Good luck! just drive it like ya have it..save up...pay it off (if it isnt already) and when you can afford "what you want" you will have a paid off "stock" car that will fetch a better resale value, and some extra cash for mods....
Just a little advice..good luck with whatever you end up doing!!!

Wouldnt id like to do is just make some tiny changes nothing that hurt my resale, im gonna start putting away money now, so by the time im out of high school , and working full time i can by i japanese car that'll run forever and a 68 mustang
Dude theses V6's are pretty reliable as far as running forever, theres a dude who comes on here every so often and is about to hit 500,000 miles and posted when he hit 400,000 I wasn't here to see it but some of the guys on here will vouch for him. I know I've never had a serious problem with mine since I've had it *knock on wood*
If people left the motor alone for the most part it would prolly last forever. these are some of toughest motors i have seen. I just don't have the restraint to stop.
O and the GT is a big leap from a stock v6, i agree with shaun on that.....but the LS1 is just crazy balls.
So STOP BEING A TRAITOR
A LS1 is like having King Kong under your hood... every time you floor the accelerator, it goes ape sh!t. And the beautiful thing is a z28 can be had for less than most new edge GTs. It's on par if not better than the n/a 4v. It's a less expensive engine to mod because of the OHV design.

Yeah i remember that guy. Has a 2000 or 2001 Green stock v6 with like 500,000 miles on it. I hope mine lasts that long.

It isnt that good lol.
they are impressive no doubt. They are not god though. For the time they came out though they were unreal for the money. My moms 2000 100% untouched auto corvette put down 300rwhp/318rwtq. pretty impressive.
I got the same thing from my parents too, couldn't get a v8 b/c of too much power. Although it's nice to have a mustang, just drive it like it is for right now. Yeah, you'll get more compliments if you get GT wheels and all that good stuff, but since your buying something better soon, i wouldn't out a whole lot into it. Keep it up to date, do the oil changes and the tire rotations and whatnot. BUT, if you're looking for minimum mods, go with a Dual exhaust and a CAI. American Muscle has them on sale for 69.99 right now. I just bought mine. I have an 00 v6 as you can see on my sig, but i'm not going all out on it, i want something better. My 'stang was a grad gift. So far I've put about 325+ in it, but I'm not going past 1k in mods at all. Saving up for a GT or something better. GL though.
