I have a 1998 mustang v6 and its my first car. I wanted a v8 but my parents said it had to much power. So what are some cheap mods i can do to give it more power, or at least appear to have more power.
to make it seem like you have more power? easy. if you want people around you to think you have more horse add a dual exhaust flows imo. or if you want to feel like you have more power add rear end gears, 3:73 for standard, 4:10 for auto.

Drive the car but don't mod it. Just keep it clean and respectable, and try to fix the little problems before they can manifest into larger problems. Looking back, I wish I didn't sink a single dollar into non-essential items for my car...
Think of it this way. Every dollar you save is a dollar you can put into your new GT. Every dollar you spend on your v6 is going to be lost when you resell it.

Any car period. when you drive it off the lot it goes down. and no car will ever get the money in mods out of a resell.
That's right... Even if you sell it to a mustang ethusiast you still won't get hardly a cent more for the mods you put in. If you plan on selling it in the near future (>2 years), I would say leave it completely stock, maybe throw on some nice rims and tires, which will help sell the car.
If you plan on holding for it longer, I would say to go ahead and put some "bang for the buck" mods (t-lok/3.73's) and run the thing until it dies.
Also don't forget that in addition to decreased gas mileage, your insurance will skyrocket with the GT. I have a friend that has a GT, similar age and coverage levels and he pays quite a bit more than I do.
they are impressive no doubt. They are not god though. For the time they came out though they were unreal for the money. My moms 2000 100% untouched auto corvette put down 300rwhp/318rwtq. pretty impressive.
I got my car when I was 18. I test drove various v6 new edges, a sn95 GT, and some new edge GTs, AND a 2000 z28. Maybe it's because that's the fastest car I've driven to date, but the difference between the z28 and Mustangs was night and day. It hauled serious ass. I honestly think I could beat an auto sn95 GT if I had 4.10s + all the mods I currently have.... that's how slow they were.
I ended up with the car I've got now due to insurance mostly and the fact it had lower miles on everything else I could find within my price range. Too bad the z28 had like 110,000 miles on it. I would have a LS1 now, but I got laid off in December, so for now I'm more than happy with what I've got and just finishing up college in a few years.

Dude theses V6's are pretty reliable as far as running forever, theres a dude who comes on here every so often and is about to hit 500,000 miles and posted when he hit 400,000 I wasn't here to see it but some of the guys on here will vouch for him. I know I've never had a serious problem with mine since I've had it *knock on wood*
+1 The only problem the guy has had so far is the bearings and seals in the differential.
The only problem I have had that was serious was 2 seized brake calipers. I have a oil leak at the front of the oil pan or bottom of the timing chain cover that Im going to need to fix right away. I might just leave it cause its not leaking that bad, only a 1/2 liter since Ive changed the oil almost 6k kms ago.

Only major problem I've had with mine is that the stock clutch went out at about 130k miles, the cats in my old y pipe failed like 3 weeks before I got my longtubes in. Other than that I have had no major problems

My coworker with a manual 97 GT gets better gas mileage on average then my auto 98 v6..
And actually, I ran a quote through my insurance company on a v8 and it was 10$ cheaper than my current v6..
Wouldnt id like to do is just make some tiny changes nothing that hurt my resale, im gonna start putting away money now, so by the time im out of high school , and working full time i can by i japanese car that'll run forever and a 68 mustang
Awesome...just remember it's your ride...there seems to be a lot of information within this forum, and ofcourse there will be all kinds of different information.....the best part about everything is you're young....if you screw it all to hell...you will have plenty of time to do it over again

You're right, I stand corrected. I'm not sure about the gas mileage part (my buddy's new edge GT get's much worse than my V6), however it was actually ~$15 CHEAPER to insure the GT under Geico's insurance policy!
