I have a 1998 mustang v6 and its my first car. I wanted a v8 but my parents said it had to much power. So what are some cheap mods i can do to give it more power, or at least appear to have more power.

There's nothing cheap that gonna give you any power. Sorry. Superchargers or a turbo is about your only option. You can do nitrous, but the power is only temporary and if not tuned right, it can create a lot of problems. Once you save some money, do a splitport swap from a 99-04 v6... that'll give you about 40 extra hp. Then go from there.

On the plus side, a good set of wheels can make your car look 10x better.

As far as cheap mods (all these only add a few horsepower)
CAI- $80 from am
Custom dual exhaust- $300+ish with mufflers
Full longtube exhaust- $1000
Underdrive pulley- $300
Light weight driveshaft- $300
Tuner- $400

That will free up/add around 20hp I assume, which deffinatly feel faster but won't be that much faster. And if you do all that you will be close to 2 grand which you could get a power pack from supersix motor sports with that will cover the split port swap and then some which will add up to idk 80hp and will actually be faster. If I could do it again I would have saved first.

Hey man I have my 97 mustang v6 and I say if its going to be costing around 2k to go a bit faster, just save up. I want to do the same with mine but the thing has 120k miles on it so Im hoping to save up big time and get a loan for a new used one and work from there lol. Meanwhile like ayrton said... get some wheels man, my moms bf says I should get some cobra r's

Don't worry about power right now if this is your first car. Enjoy it for what it is. Spice it up with little things here and there, but don't blow your life saving on it. It's just a car. Have fun with it.

on a pre 99 v6 i would look into a supercoupe conversion. most get around 220rwhp and 300rwtq with no trouble. also it gives you room to grow.

either that or a splitport swap.(99+ motor)

get a splitport swap and do some bolt ons for now, i have a 2000 and i have roughly $1800 in bolt ons, turned my car from a 16 second car to a mid 14 second car, fast enough for me for now, at the moment im saving for some serious stuff to put in my car

just make sure your parents are prepared to let you mod your car before you go ahead and do it, or they might get pretty pissed

Well my dad always says, its cheaper to have more show than go, and im not planning on racing or abuse my car or nothing, i just like to know i have something under the hood, my first few mods i was gonna do was some GT rims, dual flowmasters with chrome tips, and window tint, ive heard good things about CAI. I just dont want to put a truck full of cash into a car id be selling in a couple years to hopefully upgrade to another mustang. Also what about chips i know they change your computer to increase performance, but ive heard they can fry your engine/transmission
