so i just got my v6 slow mustang and its running about 3/4 hot. heats not working properly. i have an old jeep that does the same thing and it appears i need a heater core. to change the core in my jeep i have to take the whole dash out...has any one done this to give me some insight of how big of a pain it is??? the cars still new to me so im not yet familiar with working on it.. any advice would be much appreciated... and yes i am a noob and i have only briefly searched this issue, but i work long hours so searching and fixing usually do not happen in the same day for me.

I had to chance the blower motor resistor in mine, that was easy. However looking at it, the heater core is probably going to be as much of a pain in the a** as the jeep (I helped my buddy with his 96 jeep and I own a 94 Cherokee also) The air box is tucked behind the glove box and working around it is almost impossible. Good luck and have fun.

i have replaced my heater core 4 times, now, you have to literally take the whole dash out and then get to the heater core (your only left with like a foot maybe a little more). I even went to a few shops to see how much it would cost and they said the wouldn't touch it for any price. one finally did it for i think i payed like $900 for the job (8 hours of labor, and i needed it done because i was going away for a few months)
and on a side note, since your going to replace it anyways make sure you ground it so you don't get electrolysis going on with it, which was my problem, but didn't figure it out till the 3rd time.
The dash takes a whole hour to get out, and it's actually pretty easy. The best advice I could give you is to buy the actual Ford repair manual for your car, you can get them on EBAY, and it'll tell you the easiest ways to do anything to your car.
